Time to get the mulching season started!!

Happy New Year everyone!!! As we have rolled over the calendar to a new year Mother Nature sure hasn’t helped us yet with meaningful moisture. As we get closer to the end of this week (January 18-21) the temperatures are looking to rise well above freezing again for at least a few days. This would be a great time to help your trees and shrubs out by giving them a drink of water!! Even though we are in the dormant season the trees and especially evergreen species continue to absorb moisture through their roots. And yes even if the ground is frozen they are still able to benefit from the frozen ground if it has sufficient moisture prior to freezing. Now with that all said if you want to water with your hose be sure to drain it properly again when finished and also turn off the outside spigot if you can. I would recommend just slowly pouring a bucket of water at the base slowly to allow it to soak in at the same time. Before.......during......and after. Leaf blowing and then "vacuuming" them up and shredding them as they get loaded into truck and disposed of at a local farmers garden area for compost.
