🛑 Quite a bit of rain has been forecasted for our area. Our area and surrounding areas have several flood warnings in effect. 
A few things to consider with this current situation.
1. Make sure the drain in your areaway of your basement is draining. It is very important that it is clear of all debris and leaves. It only takes a few seconds for the leaves to clog the drain and flooding in your basement to start.
2. Most outside drains go directly to your sub pump. If your drain is not draining, check for debris, check the sub pump to make sure the float is not stuck and make sure your sub pump is plugged in. If the drain looks clear and the sub pump is working but the water is not draining, take a plunger directly to the drain as it may dislodge debris you cannot see.
3. If your basement starts to flood from outside water coming in, there’s not much you can do initially. If you have no way to stop the water from coming in unfortunately pumping it back into the yard can be a waste of time. As fast as you are trying to pump it out it will only come right back in. What’s most important is finding a way to get the water on the outside directed away from your house. Going to a place like Lowe’s and buying a submersible pump with a hose long enough to direct the water being pumped out of your basement away from the house is your best bet.
4. As we have said before, floodwater has and a lot of bacteria in it. Most flood water contains sewage. If you don’t properly protect yourself during these events of flooding it can make you very sick. The other thing to consider is electrical hazards and your home once flooding starts, So please please be careful.
5. If there is anything valuable or priceless in the area of flooding, getting it out as soon as possible is very important. The flooding also makes the moisture in the air very high which will damage photos, paintings etc.
Ultimately be careful out there. Help your friends and family. Don’t forget about your seniors.  Last, but not least, if we do indeed start flooding please be patient as all restoration companies will be overwhelmed.
