Kudos to Sherman Briggs Jr., Greg Schroth, Frank Linhares, Jr. Carmelo Nicolosi, Adam Tracy, the folks at Byrne Sand and Gravel, and Stearn’s Irrigation.
Last month, the Town of Marion Open Space Acquisition Commission (MOSAC) installed an infiltration structure to handle road runoff from Point Road. Point Road has no formal drainage system and folks adjacent to our bike path project brought this problem to the attention of MOSAC earlier in the year. While MOSAC can’t solve the problems caused by the lack of a drainage system, we are committed to making sure that the bike path won’t make matters worse.
This part of the bike path project was unanticipated during the drawing up of the budget in 2018. It was only through the volunteer efforts of a great team that this was able to get completed with minimal impact on the overall project budget.
Community members volunteered their time to make this project a success and to help out the folks downhill of the Point Road runoff. Thanks to Sherman Briggs Jr. and Greg Schroth for their installation efforts, Sherman Briggs again for the top soil, Frank Linhares, Jr. for trucking 50 cubic yards of 1 ½ inch stone from Middleborough to Marion, Professional Engineer Carmelo Nicolosi at Charon Associates for a site visit and advice, Adam Tracy at ADS for technical advice and shop drawings, the folks at Byrne Sand and Gravel and Stearn’s Irrigation for extending credit to the Town of Marion (without having to fill out any forms!)
As an additional update on the Point Road bike path project, what you see now is just fill that replaced the roots, rocks, and topsoil in the path route. We have sent a final bid package to complete the Jenna Drive – Joann Drive section of the project out for publication, with a tentative due date for bids January 16, 2025.
