One thing we’ve noticed over the years is that a lot of HVAC problems don’t happen overnight.

Usually there were warning signs first:

• Higher power bills

• Certain rooms not staying comfortable

• Weak airflow

• Systems running longer than normal

• Strange noises people get used to hearing

A lot of homeowners wait until the system completely stops working before calling someone out.

A situation we ran into recently is exactly why honest diagnostics matter so much in this industry.

We had installed a new system for a customer not long ago, and after a good experience, he referred us to his brother.

His brother lived a good distance away, so we did have to charge a trip fee to come out and inspect the system.

Before calling us, he had already gotten a quote from one of the larger HVAC companies. They told him his heat exchanger was cracked and that he needed major work done.

The problem was… the system was still fairly new.

Something didn’t add up.

They hadn’t provided photos, proof, combustion readings, or anything showing the heat exchanger was actually cracked.

After going through the system thoroughly, we found that there was nothing wrong with the heat exchanger at all.

We walked the homeowner through everything step by step so he could actually see and understand what we were looking at.

No major repair needed.

No unnecessary replacement.

System was completely fine.

That’s why we believe so strongly in taking the time to properly diagnose a system instead of jumping straight to the biggest ticket possible.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for a customer is tell them they don’t need anything.
