We’re proud to sssshare that the grand opening of the renovated Reptile House at The Toledo Zoo took place yesterday.🐊

As the design team, Buehrer Group Architecture and Engineering is honored to have played a role in the renewal of such an important piece of zoo history. Originally constructed over 90 years ago, this project was a unique opportunity to carefully balance preservation with modernization—bringing new life to a space that has educated and inspired generations.🦎

We’re excited to see visitors experience the refreshed exhibits, and even more excited for the long-term benefits this project brings to the zoo and the community. Here’s to a nearly century-old landmark continuing to inspire for generations to come 🐍

From overlooked to outstanding ✨

The Owens Community College Health Education Center is a bold example of what’s possible when adaptive reuse meets forward-thinking design. Two formerly vacant campus buildings were transformed into an 87,000+ SF, state-of-the-art hub for healthcare education—without building new.

Inside, students train in real-world environments that mirror modern healthcare settings, from simulation and nursing labs to a fully operational dental clinic and hospital-grade surgical suite. The interdisciplinary layout encourages collaboration across programs, reflecting how healthcare actually works in practice.

Designed for hands-on learning, community impact, and long-term value, this project proves that smart renovation can deliver big results—for students, educators, and the region’s growing healthcare workforce. 🏥💡
