🔑 Genuine OEM fobs vs. cheap online fobs: What are you actually paying for?

Two key fobs can look exactly the same on the outside while containing very different quality electronics and chips inside. Cheap aftermarket fobs purchased online may successfully program to your vehicle, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll work reliably. We’ve seen customer-supplied fobs operate intermittently, stop responding or fail much sooner than expected because of the part itself.

At Horn Lock & Key, we supply brand-new, genuine original manufacturer fobs, the same quality of part you would expect from a dealership. We choose the best because we want your new key to work consistently, not merely survive the programming appointment.

One more thing customers should know: The word “OEM” doesn’t always mean brand-new. Some sellers and service providers offer refurbished original-manufacturer fobs. Those may cost less, but they’ve been previously used, opened, repaired or rebuilt.

Before comparing prices, ask:

🔐 Is this genuine OEM or aftermarket?
🔐 Is it brand-new or refurbished?
🔐 Is the fob covered by a warranty?
🔐 If it fails, who is responsible for replacing and reprogramming it?

You’re welcome to bring in a fob purchased elsewhere, but in that situation, you’re paying us for the programming service only. We cannot guarantee or warranty electronics supplied by another seller.

When we supplies the fob, we stand behind the part and the programming. We don’t aim to provide the cheapest mystery fob on the internet, we aim to provide a dependable key you can count on every day.

🔐 Regular shop hours are back and our open sign is on!!!

We may have been out of the shop more than usual this summer, but we were never out of touch—and beginning today, Horn Lock & Key is back to our regular in-shop schedule!

Stop in Monday through Friday from 9:00–2:00 for keys, locks, remotes, fobs and friendly neighborhood locksmith help. Mobile service is also available by appointment.

Whether you need a spare car key before the only one disappears, new locks for a recently purchased home, or help with your business’s doors and hardware, give us a call.

Guess who’s coming back in the shop?!?! 🔑

Starting Monday, August 17, Tiffany will be back behind the counter (and sometimes one or two of our big helpers might be there too!) at Horn Lock & Key!

We’re excited to return to more consistent shop hours (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–2 PM) and can’t wait to welcome everyone back into the shop. (Maybe I’ll even get that coffee pot I always talk about!)

Ryan is doing the best he can out there running around doing service calls and trying to get to all of you in the shop too, so please give him a little extra grace 😊
