Please share with your friends. Most plumber hate repairing frozen pipes. I wrote this several years ago and share whenever temperatures start dropping.

The temperatures are dropping and staying below freezing for several days. Plumbers will find ourselves very busy. Take a few precautions so you don’t need me.
These tips will help prevent frozen pipes.
Let me give you a plumbers advice.

1. always remove gardens hoses from outside faucets and wrap the faucet. I've never repaired a frozen hose faucet that didn't have a hose attached to it!
2. leave both hot and cold water dripping. You may need to do this is several different faucets depending on how your home is built. Commonly have calls where homeowner thought leaving just cold water dripping on was enough.
3. open cabinet doors to sinks that are on outside walls, let the heat get in. Water pipes are in those outside walls.
4. if you have rooms in your home that are not used often as I do keep the doors and heating vents open in those rooms allowing heat to circulate. You never know what floor, ceiling or wall has pipes in it.
5. Add heat or insulation (be careful and safe with space heaters ) to mechanical, laundry or storage rooms that are separate from the house or don't heat well.
6. If you have attic water heaters or piping make sure it is insulated and on cold nights like this insulation may not be adequate. Dripping faucets and additional heat may be needed. Prop open the attic door a couple of inches will allow heat into the attic. It will make your heat run more but could stop a catastrophe. Saw several homes in the last freeze that were totally gutted because of attic flooding.
7. make sure crawl space and basement doors are closed.

If you have more tips please add them!

Stay warm! I hope you don't need me this week.
