Let’s talk about why this only 4 year old Log Cabin had a ton of failed stain. 🪵🏡
After seeing how discolored the stain was and also had underlying mildew buildup under the stain, this is a result of no caulking being put around windows, doors, and corner trim on this cabin❌
Now why the stain failed because of no caulking being done. Water made its way behind the trim and butt ends, soaking into the logs, then trying to escape and evaporate out of the faces of the logs and trim, causing the discoloration pictured in the first 3 below.
We had to sand down and remove the failing stain and mildew on the majority of this home, after prepping and sanding everything back to bare wood, washed everything down including sanding deck boards and washing the balusters.
Now on to the long term preventative maintenance done on this home!⬇️
-Sashco stain system was used on the house, facia trim, and deck pan trim. (Color Autum Aspen) 4 coat system. Colorfast, 2 coats of Capture stain, 1 coat of Cascade clear coat.
-Sundance was used on deck boards and hand rails. (Color Annie oakley) 1 coat system, applied until full saturation.
-Backer rod and backer triangles were installed on every piece of trim and corner of this cabin.
-Professional caulking applied and worked to a perfectly sealed smooth finish.
Battling the weather and cold, our guys got it done and did an amazing job🙏🏻
