Many homeowners aren't sure when their roof needs to be repaired or replaced. There is a common misconception that roofs that are 'totaled' always have some sort of catastrophic damage, like a massive hole, tree fall in, etc. In actuality, your roof may be 'totaled' but look completely fine from the front yard to the untrained eye. It takes an experienced professional to tell if your roof needs to be replaced. So - what needs to happen to your roof for it to be considered totaled? For hail damage, (most common in Texas), there need to be 8-10 hail hits (Depending on your insurance carrier) within 100 sq. ft. on each slope. Yep, that's it! Those small hail hits can eventually lead to leaking, rotting, etc., and should be addressed as soon as possible.
