Spotted on a job in Princeton: a mourning dove nesting on the brick ledge right above a window! She tucked her twig nest into the corner where the brick meets the window frame, a cozy spot sheltered by the overhang. Mourning doves are protected under federal law, so an active nest stays put. Our tech inspected the area and walked through ways to keep birds off this ledge once the nest is empty, so next season this window stays clear. If birds keep picking your ledges, eaves or porch corners, give us a call this fall and we will help you plan ahead. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one. Call Pest Me Off at 972-866-4720.

Here is a sneaky spot wasps love: right under an outdoor outlet cover. Our tech found this paper wasp nest on a brick wall in Plano, with several wasps sitting on the open comb and capped cells ready to hatch more. That little plastic cover gives them shade and shelter, so it is worth a quick look before you reach for that outlet to plug in fall decorations or yard tools this October. We took care of the nest so the homeowner can use that outlet without a surprise sting. Spot something similar around your place? Call Pest Me Off at 972-866-4720. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one.

Not the kind of fall decor anyone wants! This week in Frisco, our technician found and removed a roof rat nest built from dry grass, leaves and twigs, with dead rodents still inside. Roof rats get busy building nests like this as the weather cools in October, and one nest can mean more activity nearby. Our tech bagged the nest and cleared the area so the homeowner did not have to deal with it. If you are hearing scratching at night or finding nests around your yard, give Pest Me Off a call at 972-866-4720. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one.

Check out this visitor from a recent McKinney job! Our tech spotted a white-lined sphinx moth resting on the concrete right along the foundation. You can see the cream stripes on its wings, the pink hindwings tucked underneath, and that striped, pointed body. These big moths are often mistaken for hummingbirds when they hover at flowers, and their caterpillars are the hornworms that chew on garden plants. On cool October nights, outdoor lights near the foundation pull moths and other insects in close to your home. If you are noticing more bugs gathering around your house this fall, give Pest Me Off a call at 972-866-4720. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one.

Here is a close look at a paper wasp nest our tech removed from a home in Celina, TX. You can see every hexagon cell in that papery comb, plus a few capped cells where young wasps were developing. Paper wasps love tucking these nests under eaves, railings, and trim, and by fall in North Texas they can be packed with activity. If you are spotting wasps buzzing around your home this October, let us take care of it safely so you do not have to. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one. Call Pest Me Off at 972-866-4720.

When someone tells me they’re hearing scratching in the attic, my first question is: “How are they getting in?”

Catching a rat or mouse matters. So does finding the opening that let it inside.

Mice can squeeze through an opening about the width of a pencil. Around a home, we look closely at garage door corners, worn door seals, roofline gaps, soffit returns, vents and openings around pipes and utility lines.

There are things you can do now:
• Store pet food and birdseed in sturdy containers with tight-fitting lids.
• Clean up spilled feed and keep trash covered.
• Reduce clutter and debris near the house.
• Check visible door and garage seals for gaps or damage.

At Pest Me Off, we inspect for evidence, identify access points and explain what needs attention. When rodents are already inside, the plan needs to address that activity along with the exclusion work. Properly placed traps, monitoring and follow-up help us evaluate progress.

One important cleanup tip: don’t sweep or vacuum rodent droppings. Follow CDC’s wet-cleaning guidance.

Hearing noises or finding signs? We’ll help you understand what’s happening and what your home actually needs.

A scorpion in your shoe is a surprise nobody wants. Here’s what I want our North Texas neighbors to know.

If you spot one, give it space and keep children and pets away. Don’t reach into a shoe, under bedding, or behind stored items with your bare hands.

A few simple habits can help:
• Shake out shoes, gloves, clothing and bedding before use where scorpions have been found.
• Move firewood, loose boards and debris away from the house.
• Trim vegetation away from exterior walls.
• Check worn door sweeps, damaged screens and gaps around utility lines.

Scorpions hide in protected areas and hunt other small pests. That’s why we look at the whole picture: where they’re hiding, what they’re feeding on and how they’re getting inside.

At Pest Me Off, we inspect first, explain what we find and build a treatment and prevention plan around your home. Spraying alone doesn’t address every condition that brought them there.

Seeing repeat activity? Let’s take a closer look.

Talk about a Halloween scene nobody ordered! During a visit in Princeton, our tech found this black widow spider, red hourglass clearly visible, wrapping up a freshly caught grasshopper along the home's foundation. Black widows love quiet, sheltered spots like foundation edges, corners, and gaps near the ground, and fall is a busy time for them in North Texas. We treated the foundation perimeter and removed the webs so this family can enjoy October without eight legged surprises. Seeing webs low around your home? Give Pest Me Off a call at 972-866-4720. You have 99 problems. Pests shouldn't be one.

That stack of firewood against the house? It could be giving a black widow exactly what she needs: a protected place to settle in. 🕷️

Here in McKinney and across North Texas, prevention starts with looking at the places we don’t disturb very often. Stored lumber, stacked pots, garage clutter and the undersides of patio furniture all deserve attention.

A few things I recommend:
• Store firewood off the ground and away from the house.
• Clear unused materials from around exterior walls.
• Trim plants that touch the siding.
• Repair worn door seals and damaged window screens.
• Reduce unnecessary outdoor lighting that attracts the insects spiders feed on.

Before moving stored items, look first and wear work gloves. Don’t reach blindly into dark spaces or handle a suspected black widow.

At Pest Me Off, we inspect first. We look at where activity is happening, what’s supporting it and what changes will help protect your home. Understanding the problem is how we build a treatment plan that makes sense.

Have a spider you’re unsure about? Take a photo from a safe distance and send it our way.
