Designed to feel like a home oasis, this custom walk-in shower is wrapped in large slabs of blue marble and features copper accents and gold fixtures. Inside, a built-in bench and tiled niche create a simple and functional storage space, creating a functional wet zone that feels immersive and elevated.

We are honored to have received the HBA of Virginia Best Unique Home Feature for this custom wellness retreat. The addition of this spa-inspired bathroom required excavating beneath the first floor and underpinning to expand the square footage of the basement. We created a custom sauna, steam shower, heated yoga room, and personal gym space. The result is a seamless extension of the home’s luxury wellness experience.

Our goal for this historic space was to respect its original charm while elevating it for a modern lifestyle.

The Major Moves:
Maximizing Light: We removed the restrictive bay window and installed a stunning, uninterrupted picture window to flood the room with sunshine.
Improving Flow: We opened the walls on either side of the fireplace, creating a seamless, dual-entry transition into the newly designed Mahjong Room at the rear.
The Subtle Details (What you might not notice at first glance):
- Intentional Elevation: The living room is raised, creating a step-up that makes entering the space feel highly intentional and distinct.
- Minimalist Drywall: To modernize the room’s profile without competing with its historic roots, we stripped away heavy traditional millwork. Notice the sleek drywall ceiling beams, the seamless “drywall” fireplace surround, and the trimless, drywalled window returns.

These architectural changes completely transformed the flow and filled the space with a wonderful, inviting glow. A holistic approach that breathes new life into a historic gem.

Bringing the landscape inside with olive leather, moody charcoal and bronze hexagons, and the deep texture + movement of the stone. 🪨 To brighten it up, we paired it with a touch of warm wood 🪵 and ribbed linen tile ☁️ for the ultimate tactile balance.
