The results are a really fun array of looks. If you want to know more, we encourage to visit our website! You can also call us for more details or to order a custom bottle stopper. Dan recently built this custom display cabinet for a customer. The wood is Jatoba with an accent of maple on the top and front corners. Where are the k***s, you say? It opens and closes with a push, and the doors are held closed by magnets. The customer is using it to display Native American baskets.

Well, here is the finished product. After many hours of work (well over 40) the table was ready to go home.
The owner wanted a more natural, matte-type look (which happens to be what I like best) so I finished it with the following:
2 applications of boiled linseed oil on the whole table.
1 application of Howard's Feed N Wax on the legs and underneath.
4 applications of Howard's Feed N Wax on the table top.
2 coats of Minwax paste finishing wax on the table top.
The slides were taken apart and I applied beeswax so they would slide nicely.
I tried to find a place that would repair the old table latch that was broken but was unable to get that accomplished. I ended up purchasing new ones with an antique brass finish so as to blend nicely with the age and finish of the table.
I also purchased casters for the legs because that is how the table was originally made. It brought it up to the standard height of a table. I hope you enjoyed seeing the restoration process. I enjoyed sharing it with you. Thank you to the owner for the opportunity to bring this piece back to life. It was truly a pleasure.

The first picture is of the top and each section has been glued/connected and is ready for sanding.
I discovered many holes in the legs and table top, likely caused by bugs. I filled them with the sawdust produced while sanding so as to keep all the material original. I used CA glue with the sawdust when filling the holes. Some of the bug holes were over an inch deep in the legs. The process of sanding and filling holes was definitely the most time consuming of the whole project.
The final three pictures show the table reassembled after sanding and ready for refinishing.

Well, here are the pictures I took when I brought the table to the shop. As you can see here, it is in very rough shape.
In the first picture, the 4 boards on the workbench are supposed to be two removable leaves. All the boards you see on the table (at the bottom of the first pic) are not connected.
The second picture is a good visual of all the parts.
The final picture is after I completely disassembled the table to begin work on it. Interestingly, I found a number 18 stamped on several of the parts of this table. Not sure what that indicates, but it was an interesting discovery. And the work begins....

Here is a project I have been working on for some time. The owner of this table approached me about restoring a table that has been in his family for about 150 years. He felt that it was beyond repair, but I am always up for a challenge. Over the next several posts I will be posting pictures of the process of restoring the table with a brief description of what was done. I am very pleased with the final result and, more importantly, the owner is pleased also.
The pictures below are ones the owner sent me before I brought it to my shop. There are other parts to the table that aren't pictured here, but I will post those tomorrow when I share the pictures I took when it arrived at the shop.
