Since we are expected to get unusually bitter cold days ahead, please make sure you remember to do the following
1.). Remove all hoses from spigots on the outside of your house.
2.) close all your crawl space vents if you haven’t already done so.
3.) leave a slow trickle of water running on every fixture that sits on an outside wall of your home to prevent frozen pipes.
4.) leave vanity cabinets and kitchen sink cabinets open so that the heat in your home helps keep pipes warm.
5.) mark your water meter and know how to cut it off or know where & how to cut your well off. If you don’t have a water meter key for your meter at the street, they are $15-30 at home depot invest in one. Make sure your teenage children know how to shut the water off in case you are not home
6.) keep a few buckets of water on hand if you own a well just in case you lose power.
If you suspect frozen pipes, use a hairdryer to warm the pipes up in sections slowly.
If you have to call a plumber, please be kind and shovel/salt your sidewalk and steps.
