🎄 Deck the Halls... Safely!
Ready to bring the sparkle this season? Before you plug in that giant inflatable Santa or string up a thousand lights, we want you to stay safe! Electrical hazards spike during the holidays. Here are some safety tips to keep your house bright, not burnt!
⚠️ Inspect: Before plugging in last year's lights, check every strand. If you find damage, toss them out. Damaged lights are a major fire risk!
🔌 Don't Overload Outlets: This is the #1 mistake! Never plug more than the manufacturer recommends (usually no more than three standard incandescent strands linked together). Use multiple outlets or consider LED lights, which draw far less power.
💧 Use GFCIs Outdoors: All outdoor lights and decorations must be plugged into an outlet protected by a GFCI. If water gets in, a GFCI trips the circuit immediately, preventing shock and fire. If you don't have one, it's a critical safety upgrade!
🚫 Indoor vs. Outdoor: Never use indoor-rated lights outside! They aren't built to withstand moisture, sun, or temperature changes and can quickly become hazardous. Always check the tag.
⏰ Unplug When Away: Simple but crucial: Turn off all holiday lights before leaving the house or going to bed. Use a timer or a smart plug to make this easier!
Shine bright, stay safe, and have a wonderful holiday season!
