Another great project completed with the talented Smith & Hutton architects, and two new subcontractors, Village Handcrafted Cabinetry and Hines Studios LTD.

Fully paneled walls and cabinetry, with many layers of custom moulding profiles, helped us to create this jewel-box of a bathroom in Boston’s Beacon Hill. The cabinetry and millwork was beautifully bench-made by and orchestrated by . Inlaid antiqued mirror and textured burlap wallcovering within the cabinetry and wall panels add texture to the smooth, semi-gloss painted surfaces.

The exaggeration found in many open plans runs counter to the typical functioning of most families. Balancing open and private spaces in residential settings, as well as creating volumes which relate intimately with our human size, seems to suit our psychological health better.

The combining of common rooms was already losing its luster. But as the pandemic has triggered demand for private spaces like home offices and dens, designers are looking for a new solution.
