Onions, shallots, and garlic, all grown in our clients’ gardens and prepared by our team, ready to go home to the clients who grew them. 🧅🧄

Now the cycle starts again. Next year’s garlic is going in this fall, and we’re meeting with clients to talk through the season: what to grow more of, what to skip, what to try. Some of those conversations happen on a walk through the garden, others at the kitchen table with next year’s crop plan in hand.

Every cucumber starts as a flower 🌼

In our edible gardens, our team member Claire likes to make cucumbers the centerpiece of the bed. They grow big, climb their trellis and produce generously all season, so they earn the spot. Take a closer look at how they go from flower to fruit.

As the season winds down, we’re sitting down with clients to look back on this year’s harvest and plan next year’s garden: what to grow more of, what to try, even how the cucumbers should climb.

The bees are still working late in the season 🐝

Anemones are perennials that bloom from late summer straight through fall, bringing soft pink and white flowers to the garden just as so much else is winding down. This visitor is having a great time in pollen.

When your green thumb delivers a purple harvest 💜

Purple carrots, purple potatoes, and fairytale eggplants, all from a client's edible garden in the Berkshires, alongside cucumbers, beets, green beans, and a rotating cast of peppers.

Fairytale eggplants are one of our favorite additions to a garden: smaller than a typical Italian eggplant, but wonderfully plentiful. It's always fun being able to present a client with a harvest this colorful.

Interested in growing something this colorful yourself? We’ll arrange a visit to your property and walk you through every step of the process.

Meet the team in your garden. 🌿

Austin, Claire, Olivia, Ryan, Callie — trained and certified edible and ecological land care experts. Their office is outside, learning what your soil and plants need to thrive.

Some days that's a meadow install. Other days it's pruning, or picking the last of the season's tomatoes. Different tasks, same purpose: helping you transform your outdoor space into an ecological oasis. 🌱

Curious what they could do for your garden?

We'd love to hear from you: https://www.botanicalandcare.com/contact

Pocket meadow, anyone? 🌾

Maybe we’re biased, but we’d suggest a meadow to anyone. Beautiful native flowers, a home for little creatures, beautiful diversity for your landscape… There are many benefits for both your family and your local environment.

Got questions about installing a meadow? Drop them here and one of our meadow specialists - like Olivia - will respond.

A well-tended garden doesn't happen on its own. This kitchen garden gets regular attention through the season, staking, w**ding, harvesting, so it keeps producing and stays this productive, including this family's favorite fruits (blueberries) and vegetables. 🌿

Nothing here goes to waste: peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, and a few zinnias for good measure. This week’s harvest picked and donated to a local food pantry while our client was away. 🍅🫑🥒

Harvesting is about collecting what’s ready, but also an important part of what keeps a garden productive. Many of these crops, tomatoes and peppers especially, will keep setting new fruit as long as the ripe ones are picked. Leave them on the vine too long and the plant shifts energy toward ripening seed instead of growing more, so regular harvesting is what keeps the yield coming through the season. 🌱

August is the garden's most generous month. Baskets filling faster than we can carry them - kale, chard, herbs, and armfuls of marigolds and zinnias at peak bloom. 🌼

What's coming out of your garden right now?

A meadow in high summer is alive in a way a lawn never is. 🌾 Grasses moving in the wind, daisies and butterfly w**d drawing in pollinators, a whole small ecosystem doing its quiet thing.

Establishing one takes patience, the right prep, a season or two of care, and ongoing attention to keep it thriving. The payoff is a living landscape that gives back to the land around it.
