Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday morning we will meet at the garden at 8:30 a.m. to finish up clearing bins and solarizing before the summer break. We will also have some harvesting, w**ding and compost to take care of. There will be vegetables growing over the summer, and if you would like to help care for them please let me know. It looks like we will have sweet potatoes, peanuts and cow peas over the summer, and tomatoes and chard as long as they last.

I would like to have a little gathering of our garden group to celebrate our very successful fall/winter/spring garden. I was thinking about a pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 13. Save the date, more details to follow.

I will send emails out periodically over summer, and we will gather to plan our next garden in the fall.

See you in the garden.

Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday we will meet in the garden for our weekly chores. We're still working on clearing bins and solarizing them for summer, as well as watering and harvesting. Next Saturday, May 30, should be our last Saturday morning in the garden for most of us until September, as we take our summer break. There are a couple of people who will be growing and watering over the summer.

The w**d cloth is down over most of the garden and should really help us keep w**ds to a minimum over the summer. It's a big improvement and makes for a tidy, well cared for garden plot. Thanks to all who helped on this project.

Come join your garden friends in the garden. See you tomorrow.

Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday morning we will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the garden for our weekly plant and garden tending. We received some beneficial rain this week and that's been helpful, as temperatures climb.

Even as we prepare the garden for summer, we're still getting a nice harvest each week. Frank is going to be planting some crops to grow over summer...peanuts, sweet potatoes, pink eyed peas...so if anyone wants to help with this please let me know and get on the watering list.

Be sure to wear a hat and bring plenty of water. It is getting warm out there.

See you in the garden!

Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday morning we will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the garden for our weekly chores and harvest. Even as we wind down, we will have a nice harvest of chard, kale, beets, tomatoes, peas, celery, and onion. We continue to clear bins and solarize for the summer and collect compost.

Also, tomorrow, May 9, has been designated as a Community Service Day in Melbourne Village. It's a chance for residents who aren't members of committees to help spruce up the Village and enjoy lunch at the AHF Hall afterwards. Please feel free to invite your family members, partner or neighbors to spend the morning in the Community Garden with us, taking a peek inside the fence at the lovely garden we have created. We will welcome them!

Happy Mother's Day! We honor, celebrate, and remember mothers everywhere.

See you in the garden,

Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday morning, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the garden for our weekly chores. We will continue to clear and solarize bins, water, compost, harvest and work on finishing up the w**d cloth. Thank you to the ladies who showed up on Tuesday evening to put down a patchwork quilt of w**d cloth in the garden.

Thank you to Vicki for stepping up and serving as Secretary of the garden committee for the upcoming year, and for writing an article for the Summer Villager about growing vegetables without chemicals. Hopefully others will be inspired to join us in growing clean food.

And finally, I will share with you what a friend of mine shared with me this week in a card: "Advice from a Garden".

See you in the garden.

Good afternoon gardeners,

This Saturday morning, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the garden for our weekly chores. In addition to watering, compost, harvesting, and treating for pests, there is some w**ding that needs to be done to get ready for summer. Also, we can begin to put black plastic (solarize) on bins that are finished growing for this season.

We're watching some volunteer pumpkin vines grow from seeds in the compost. It will be interesting to see what they turn into. The blossoms are beautiful! I'm going to see if we can identify the male and female flowers.

Tuesday evening, April 21, we will have our first Community Garden committee meeting of the 2026-27 year. We will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the AHF Hall, prior to the AHF committee orientation meeting that starts at 7:00 p.m. We will discuss plans for the summer garden, and successes and failures of the fall/winter garden. I hope to see our committee members there, even if you can't stay for the AHF committee orientation meeting that starts at 9:00.

See you in the garden!

Good Morning Gardeners,

This week we got some beneficial, soaking rain. Just the kind we need to help our frost and freeze damaged plants and trees make a spring come back. It's looking greener in the Village! I am enjoying watching and waiting on mother nature to show her resilience. "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." (quote Lao Tzu)

This Saturday morning in the garden we will meet for our weekly chores and harvest. Our tomatoes are looking good, but they do have horn worms on them, so perhaps a horn worm scavenger hunt is in order. (I found 5 already.)

We need to schedule our first committee meeting of the 2026-27 committee year. Tomorrow morning, we can decide if we want to meet on a Saturday morning in the Village Hall, or meet at 6:30 p.m. on April 21 prior to the Committee Orientation meeting that is being held by the AHF at 7:00 p.m. At any rate, all are welcome to the Committee Orientation meeting April 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Hall.

Our officers for this committee year are Vicki Busby, Secretary and Brenda Mathews, Chairperson. Thanks to all of you for all you do.

There was also some discussion about finishing the w**d cloth project on a day other than Saturday morning, when people are not in the way and it is the only task we take on. We can talk about a day/time for that tomorrow as well.

Temperatures in the 70's and fresh, rain-cleaned air awaits us. See you in the garden!

Good morning gardeners,

This Saturday morning we will meet in the garden at 9:00 a.m. for our weekly chores, watering and harvesting. We have noticed more pests in the garden so it will also be important to check for and treat pests.

This is also the morning of the Village Easter Egg Hunt so a couple of us will be there with grandchildren or helping with the event. It will be a busy morning in the meadow.

See you in the garden!

Good morning gardeners,

Good morning gardeners,

Happy first day of Spring! This Saturday morning, we met at 9:00 a.m. in the garden for our weekly chores. I don't know about you, but I missed seeing the garden last week. Spring weather and spring showers have been at work, and we had a nice harvest. We got back to our weekly garden chores, compost and more w**d cloth.

There will be a Committee Orientation meeting for all committees April 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Hall. If you are new to serving on a committee, or if you are a chairperson or secretary, there will be a lot of good information about how committees operate at that meeting. Please put this date on your calendar and plan to attend if you can.

And finally, we welcome little Ellie Hagood, who graced the world with her presence on March 18, 2026. Mother and baby are doing well. Congratulations to the Hagoods!

See you in the garden!
