Have bats in your attic and think it's OK to remove them during maternity season (April 16th-Aug 14th)? Think again.

We've previously been called to meet with Officer Mock of FWC to confirm an illegal bat removal job that was done by another company during this time of year. It's not something the law takes lightly.

In Florida, removing or excluding bats during maternity season (April 16 – August 14) without a permit is a second-degree misdemeanor.

​If caught violating Florida Administrative Code rules (68A-4.001 and 68A-9.010), penalties enforced by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) can include:

​Fines up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail per violation for standard state-protected species.

​Fines up to $5,000 or higher if the removal results in the death or extreme harassment of a colony.

​Severe federal penalties—up to $50,000 and one year in prison—if the violation involves a federally endangered species, such as the Florida bonneted bat.

​Additionally, commercial wildlife operators can face the immediate revocation of their business licenses.

There ARE things we can do this time of year however to prevent the problem from getting worse. You will also get scheduled for removal once season reopens in August.
