Re-imagining the Mysteries through Paint. "Everything changes, nothing perishes." -Ovid

10/19/2026

Enjoy some details from my 2023 painting "Tiger Lily." Around that time I was beginning to reconnect with the wilderness within me, years of volcanic rage bottled up inside, waiting to erupt. As Pluto stations direct this week, I'm reminded that wholeness becomes possible when we learn to love even the most fearsome sides of ourselves. Art is a healing journey.

The Heart is a recurring motif in my art, and this week I've been bombarded with images and mentions of it everywhere I turn. The Heart takes many forms, both overt and hidden. Sometimes it's a literal heart, whether inflamed, or just a faint glow beneath the chest. Other times it appears as the heart-shaped blooms of bougainvillea, or the leaves of a pothos plant. It may take the shape of a jar, as in ancient Egypt, or emerge as a red wing that I subconsciously molded into a vague heart shape. Whatever the form, these Mysteries are near and dear to, well, my heart. In an age overcome with hyper-rationality, it is imperative that we reconnect with the Heart as a vital source of life.

Chrysaor, 24x16 inches, oil on linen

I've always admired this antique sword on display at a collector's home, and she was so gracious to let me borrow and paint it! It turned into a wild exploration of bright yellow, uncharted color territory for me. The whole process felt like a powerful alchemical process. Available now, DM for info.

Katabasis, 14x11 inches, oil on wood.

Fresh off the easel, another foray into a new mysterious mood that's slowly emerging in my new work. Process shots reveal how I built up semi transparent layers of paint to create a hazy, dreamy atmosphere. I can't wait to explore this uncharted corner of my personal Underworld.

Hearts Gather Round, 2025, Oil on linen, 34x44 inches

Enjoy these details of my painting Hearts Gather Round. This was the second figurative painting to explore the motif of the Smoldering Heart of Zagreus, a powerful symbol of the Orphic mysteries. Here the initiates activate their hearts in a powerful ritual of energetic releasing, liberating the World Egg from the coils of the serpent. Or, is it the other way around? 🤔🥚🐍
