🔥 Wildfire season is here, Treasure Valley & Idaho neighbors — and the fires around us are a serious reminder.

At The Tree Guy, one of the most important services we offer is fire break creation and maintenance.

What is a Fire Break?
A fire break (or defensible space) is a carefully cleared and managed zone around your home, structures, and property that reduces the intensity and spread of wildfire. We strategically remove or thin highly flammable vegetation, ladder fuels (low branches that let fire climb into the canopy), dead wood, and dense underbrush while keeping the landscape looking intentional and healthy.

Why it matters right now in Idaho:
• Dry fuels + wind + heat = rapid fire spread
• Many of our local trees and brush act as fuel ladders if left unmanaged
• A proper fire break can slow or stop a fire from reaching your home, giving firefighters a better chance and protecting your family and property
• Insurance companies are increasingly looking at defensible space when assessing risk and claims

Even if your property isn’t in the direct path of current fires, creating or improving a fire break is one of the smartest proactive steps you can take in our high-risk landscape. 🔥

What we do:
• Professional assessment of your property’s fire risk
• Strategic thinning and removal of hazardous trees and fuels
• Creation of clean, maintained fire breaks that still look landscaped
• Ongoing maintenance so your protection stays effective year after year
Don’t wait until smoke is in the air. The best time to create a fire break is before the next fire starts.

If you’d like us to evaluate your property and create a customized fire-break plan, send us a message or give us a call. We’re here to help keep your home and trees safer this season.
Stay safe out there, Idaho.

🌳 Hot Weather Tree Care Tip from The Tree Guy 🌳

With this insane heat hitting the Treasure Valley the next few days, your trees are working overtime — and water is more precious than ever. Here’s how to keep them healthy while being smart about every drop: 💧

Smart Watering Tips That Save Water & Help Your Trees:
• Deep & Infrequent — Water slowly and deeply (aim for 10–15 gallons per inch of trunk diameter) 1–2 times per week instead of a little every day. This encourages strong, deep roots that handle drought better.
• Water Early — Early morning is best so water soaks in before the sun evaporates it.
• Mulch Matters — Add or refresh 3–4 inches of organic mulch around the base of your trees (keep it a few inches away from the trunk). It locks in moisture, cools the soil, and reduces evaporation.
• Focus on the Roots — Water at the drip line (outer edge of the branches) where the feeder roots are, not just near the trunk.
• Skip the Lawn — Your established trees need priority over grass right now.

Healthy trees not only look better — they provide shade that actually helps keep your home cooler and lowers your cooling costs. 🌳🧊

If your trees are showing signs of stress (wilting, scorched leaves, or dropping green leaves), give us a call. We’re happy to assess them and help get them through this heat wave strong.

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from The Tree Guy! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the birth of this great nation — 2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ years of the land of the free and the home of the brave. With hearts full of gratitude and absolute love for God and our Country, we thank the Lord for the blessings of freedom, faith, and the opportunity to live, work, and grow in this beautiful place.

We are proud to serve our community with the same values that built this country: hard work, integrity, love of family, and a deep respect for the land we call home.

To all our veterans, first responders, active duty service members, and their families — thank you. Your sacrifice makes our freedom possible. We salute you today and every day.
From our family to yours, may your 4th be filled with joy, fireworks, good food, and heartfelt thanks to the One who made this all possible.

🌳 Welcome to July, Treasure Valley! 🌳

We’re kicking off the heart of summer with hotter days, drier air, and those classic Idaho blue skies. While we love the sunshine, this kind of heat puts extra stress on our trees — and increases wildfire risk across the Treasure Valley.

First, help your trees beat the heat:
• Deep water them slowly and deeply (early morning is best) — a good rule is 10–15 gallons per inch of trunk diameter, a couple times a week.
• Add a thick layer of mulch around the base (but keep it away from the trunk) to lock in moisture and keep roots cool.
• Watch for signs of stress like wilting leaves or early leaf drop.

Now the big one — Fire Breaks / Defensible Space:
With our hot, dry summers and wildfire season in full swing, one of the smartest things you can do for your property is create or improve your Fire Break.
A Fire Break is a cleared buffer zone around your home where we remove flammable vegetation, trim low-hanging branches, thin dense brush, and create space between trees and structures. It slows down or stops wildfires from reaching your house, giving firefighters a better chance and potentially saving your home.
We offer professional Fire Break Services tailored to Treasure Valley properties — done safely, cleanly, and with your specific landscape in mind. Don’t wait until a fire is nearby. Protecting your family, home, and trees now makes all the difference during these high-risk months.

As your local, family-owned tree care team with 30+ years of experience (licensed & fully insured), we’re here to help your trees thrive all summer long and keep your property as safe as possible.

🌳 Thunderstorm Heading for the Treasure Valley Tomorrow – The Tree Guy’s Got You Covered! 🌳

Hey Treasure Valley! A thunderstorm is rolling in starting tomorrow, bringing strong erratic wind gusts up to 50 mph, heavy rain, and lightning. As your local family-owned and operated tree experts (30+ years strong, licensed & insured), here’s our Pro Thunderstorm Prep Guide to protect your trees, property, and loved ones:

Quick Actions You Can Take Today:
• Scout for Weak Branches — Walk around and look for dead, cracked, or hanging limbs that could come crashing down in high winds or lightning strikes. Remove loose yard debris, patio furniture, grills, and trampolines.
• Help Your Trees Stand Strong — Thin dense canopies if possible so wind can flow through (not push them over). Young or leaning trees especially need extra attention.
• Lightning Safety First — Avoid standing under tall trees during the storm — lightning loves them! Bring potted plants inside and secure anything that can blow away.
• Home & Property Prep — Secure gutters, close shutters/gates, move vehicles out from under big trees, and have a family emergency plan ready.
• Stay Informed — Monitor weather alerts and avoid outdoor activities once thunder starts.
Healthy, well-pruned trees handle thunderstorms much better. If you’ve got a risky tree near your house, power lines, or anywhere it could cause trouble — don’t wait until it’s too late!

If lightning strikes, winds cause damage, or trees come down and create emergencies (blocked driveways, roof damage, etc.), we’re ready to help.

🌳 June 24th - TREE TIP OF THE DAY 🌳

River Birch peels beautifully here but needs extra water. Plant near a downspout (with good drainage) for a natural microclimate in our arid summers.
