Kodiak Tree Solutions – Job Highlight

We had the honor of taking down an absolute giant this week—a silver maple estimated to be over 100 years old out in New Plymouth.

Our resident “giant killer,” Eli, spent the day up in the lift carefully bringing it down piece by piece, while I (Jesse) handled rigging, log movement, and equipment on the ground. All said and done, it took us about 8 hours to safely complete the job.

We were fortunate to work with some truly amazing clients who chose to keep all of the wood. That not only allowed us to give them a great deal, but also made the process more efficient on our end. It’s jobs—and people—like this that make the work especially rewarding.

As arborists, it’s always bittersweet removing a tree of this age. However, this one was nearing the end of its life and had already caused damage in the past—taking out sections of the client’s gate more than once. While the tree still appeared fairly sound overall, it showed clear signs of age-related decline. Internally, the wood was beginning to break down, and the tree was starting to compartmentalize and shrink in on itself.

On the bright side, the wood is going to be put to good use, giving this old tree a second life in a different form—which we always love to see.

This week we removed our biggest tree yet under our company name and it was a true monster. 100 foot tall cottonwood out in Emmett about 15-20 feet in diameter at the base. I’d like to give a big thanks to the homeowners Steve N Angela Pugh for being such amazing clients and pitching in their truck to help pull this sucker over. We sure gave em a good show. Thanks to their help and keeping the wood we were able to keep the price low without sacrificing quality work. They also did some amazing camera work!

Eli Nelson, Justice Mitchell,and Jesse Allen putting in the work to remove 15 elms, 2 sweet gums, and a small poplar with grinding. Everything went well even with some changes here and there but powered through and got er done.
