Originating with the Shuar and Achuar peoples of the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon, the traditional practice was used to trap an enemy’s soul and prevent revenge, though Western trade later drove a market for counterfeits made from animal hides.

New amazing replica artifacts have arrived at the Tyrannostorus!

The skulls presented here represent different artifacts associated with head hunting tribes and cultures from all over the world including the Dayak and Naga tribes.

The Dayak of Borneo are hill-dwelling headhunters. During battles, Dayak warriors would remove the heads of their slain victims and create intricately carved skulls to serve as trophies of their conquests and to represent their ferocity in battle. The freshly decorated skulls of the victims were thought to have magical powers that would improve the bounties of gardens, cure disease, and ward off evil spirits. The arrival of Christianity to Borneo led to a sharp decrease in headhunting but there are documented increases in the practice during World War II and even into the 1960s. The last known cases of headhunting were in the 1990s, when the Dayak attacked emigrants venturing into their lands.

The Naga are a group made up of several tribes native to northeastern India and northwestern Burma. The Naga tribes were active headhunters and preserved the heads of enemies as trophies up until the 1960s. Explorer Ursula Graham Bower described the Naga lands as the “paradise of headhunters.” and noted that most villages had a ‘skull house’ and each man in the village was expected to contribute skulls to the collection.

Check out this INSANELY rare Pachycephalosaurus toe claw!

Pachycephalosaurus is a genus of pachycephalosaurid ornithischian dinosaur. The type species, P. wyomingensis, is the only known definitive species. The possibly synonymous taxon, Stygimoloch, might represent a distinct genus or a second species, P. spinifer. It lived during the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous period in what is now western North America. Remains have been excavated in Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Alberta. Mainly known from a single skull and a few extremely thick skull roofs (at 22 cm (8.7 in) thick), Pachycephalosaurus is estimated to have reached 4.5 m (15 ft) long and weighed 370–450 kg (820–990 lb).
