A crumbling chimney sitting only inches away from the historic El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico was safely brought to the ground by the BCS team. The 1930’s era boiler chimney was beyond repair as adverse weather conditions had caused deep cracks to develop in the structure over time. Bricks were dislodging and the chimney was in danger of catastrophic collapse. With a tight schedule and little room for error, we developed and implemented a 60’ modular chute to protect the active hotel along with several protection systems for nearby utilities - some of which were touching the structure to be demolished. Our Brokk 160 with custom bracketry could be fitted to each chute section and methodically hammer the stack while guiding material to the designated chute location. A crane raises and lowers the chute as the chimney is hammered down while maintaining a safe distance from the overhead powerlines and live traffic in the eastbound lane.
