Closed at the handle doesn't always mean sealed inside.

On this job, water was escaping through the backwash even with the valve in the closed position. We also documented leaks around the valve housing and nearby glue joints.

Checking what the equipment is actually doing helps us explain what needs attention next. 💧

Clear water doesn't tell you everything about pool equipment.

During this inspection, we found a salt cell with heavy mineral buildup. The report recommended cleaning it.

Keep the care instructions for your equipment handy, and ask your pool service provider when something looks different. A closer look can reveal something the pool's surface doesn't show. 💧

Inspection also found debris and plaster slurry in parts of the cleaning system, affecting its operation.

A line can pass leak testing and still need attention for a different reason. That’s why we document both the test results and what we find along the way. 💧

Follow the neon dye. 💧

Here, the dye is being pulled into the mud ring at the pool’s light niche, helping us pinpoint the leak.

We used epoxy to seal it up that same day. Onto the next one!

As temperatures drop and your pool water cools, evaporation can slow—but wind and dry air still play a part. 💧
If you notice your pool needing more water than usual, it may be time for a bucket test. Comparing water loss in the pool with evaporation in the bucket can help you decide whether further testing is needed.

An automatic fill can keep your pool looking normal even when it's adding more water than it used to.

These photos show two different auto-leveler float and canister setups. If your pool has an automatic fill, pay attention to a change in how often it runs and note what you observe. That pattern can be a useful clue, but it doesn't tell you where the water is going or prove there's a leak.
