We went on a tour of some of the Juarez churches yesterday. We stopped in at Senecú del Sur where some of the settlers of Doña Ana migrated from. Iglesia San Lorenzo is where some of the Mesilla residents migrated from and we also went to La Capilla de San José. San José is where the burial of Padre Ramón Ortiz is. At the conclusion of the Treaty of Hildalgo Cura Ramón Ortiz was responsible for moving people to the new frontera boundary lines. Many residents from Doña Ana moved to Mesilla at this time to stay Mexican citizens and residents from San Lorenzo and Paso de Norte migrated to Mesilla as the furthest north mexican settlement. Within a few short years Mesilla became part of the US as a result of the Gadsen Purchase, a very rich history!

This Wednesday, Sept 20th, from 8 to 3 we have another free lime plaster workshop at 2483 Calle San Albino at the Pemo Gamboa house. Come join us as we talk “Lime” and apply a leveling coat of lime plaster. We also have a walking tour in the afternoon to look at old adobes and how to repair them. Let me know if you’re coming so we can get a head count for lunch, thanks!

The Earth Builder’s Guild (TEG) had their meeting in Ruidoso at the Dowlin Mill. Our hosts were Delana and Dr. Mike Clements who have been the caretakers of this amazing adobe building!

I've had to CANCEL our lime plaster for this Wednesday, Sept 6th. When I wrote about starting our lime plaster last week the temperature was supposed to be 95 degrees. Well, something happened between then and now and it's supposed to be 102 degrees tomorrow! This definately is not lime plaster weather.
Sorry for the cancellation but next Wednesday, Sept 13th, is when we'll begin.
I spent the morning yesterday hanging burlap cloths in anticipation for this week but even keeping the burlaps wet under the shade cloths will be too much for the lime plaster plaster, it'll dry too fast, never a good thing for lime plaster.
See you September 13th!

Every Wednesday in the month of September we are having a free lime plaster workshop at the Pemo Gamboa House at 2483 Calle de San Albino from 8:00 to 3:00. Come join us and learn about how lime plaster is better for our old adobes. Please let me know via this post if you'd like to come, you're more than welcome. We'll be working on the first coat of lime plaster this coming Wednesday week, second coat the following week followed by the finish coat and lime wash.

I would like to thank Diego Casanova who interned with us for 3 months, he helped in setting up and running our recent Mesilla workshops. Diego is an energetic young man who quickly learned adobe work and traditional adobe repair. He also set up our social media sites doing a great job which I couldn't have done, not having that skill set. I'd also like to thank Cristian Heinsen, from Fundacíon Altiplano in Chile, for connecting the two of us. We look forward to future collaborations! We miss Diego and we wish him well!

Together with David Keller we developed a 5 days training for Texas Park and Wild Life... giving them the main understanding and hands on how to maintain old adobes avoiding amended products and going back to the natural-traditional resources.
