What does a healthy roof actually look like?

Just because your roof isn’t leaking doesn’t always mean it’s in great shape.

Here are a few signs of a healthy roof:

✅ Shingles lay flat with no curling or lifting.

✅ No missing shingles or exposed fiberglass mat.

✅ Flashing around chimneys, vents, and valleys is secure and in good condition.

✅ Gutters are draining properly with no signs of excessive shingle granules.

✅ No water stains on ceilings or signs of moisture in the attic.

A healthy roof isn’t just about how it looks from the street—it’s about how the entire roofing system is performing.

The best part? A roof can often stay healthy for years with routine maintenance and catching small issues before they become major repairs.

At Fetch Roofing, our inspections focus on the overall health of your roof—not finding reasons to replace it. If everything looks great, that’s exactly what we’ll tell you.

The best roof is the one you never have to think about because it’s doing its job.

If you’re wondering how healthy your roof is, we would be happy to provide a free, honest inspection and answer any questions you have.

There’s a tarp on your roof… now what?

A tarp is a temporary solution—not a permanent repair.

After a storm, a tarp can help keep water out and prevent additional damage, but it shouldn’t stay on your roof for weeks or months.

Here’s what you should do:

✅ Take photos of the damage if it’s safe to do so.

✅ Keep the tarp in place until a professional can inspect the roof. Removing it too soon could allow more water into your home.

✅ Schedule a roof inspection as soon as possible. The tarp only hides the problem—it doesn’t fix it.

Waiting too long can allow moisture to seep into your decking, insulation, and even your home’s interior, turning a repair into a much larger project.

At Fetch Roofing, we’ll inspect the damage, document everything with photos, and help you understand the next steps—without pressure or gimmicks.

A tarp buys you time. It doesn’t solve the problem.

If your roof has been covered with a tarp after a recent storm, send us a message. We would be happy to help you figure out what comes next.

Everyone says roofing is a dog-eat-dog business…

We took that a little too literally. 🐶🏠

Need your roof checked? Our inspections are a lot less ruff than replacing a whole roof later. 😉

Want your roof to last longer? Here are 5 simple habits that can add years to its life.

Your roof protects everything underneath it. Taking care of it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Here are five things every homeowner should do:

✅ Keep your gutters clean. Clogged gutters can cause water to back up under your shingles and lead to costly damage.

🌳 Trim overhanging tree branches. Branches can scrape shingles, drop debris, and become a serious hazard during high winds.

🌬️ Have your roof inspected after major storms. Catching small issues early can prevent expensive repairs later.

🏡 Don’t ignore small repairs. A loose shingle or damaged pipe boot is much easier—and cheaper—to fix before it turns into a leak.

📅 Schedule a professional roof inspection every year. Just like servicing your HVAC system or changing the oil in your vehicle, routine maintenance helps extend the life of your investment.

A little maintenance today can save you thousands tomorrow.

At Fetch Roofing, we believe in helping homeowners get the most life possible out of their roof. If your roof is in great shape, we’ll tell you. If it needs attention, we’ll explain why—with honest advice and clear photos.

The secret to a long-lasting roof isn’t luck… it’s preventative maintenance.

What size hail can actually damage your roof?

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is…

“The hail wasn’t that big, so my roof must be fine.”

The truth? It’s not just the size of the hail that matters.

Damage depends on several factors:
🧊 The size of the hail
💨 Wind speed
☁️ The direction it falls
🏠 The age and condition of your roof

In many cases, hail around 1 inch in diameter (about the size of a quarter) can begin causing damage to asphalt shingles. Larger hail increases the risk, but even smaller hail can cause problems under the right conditions.

The challenge is that hail damage isn’t always visible from the ground. Your roof may look perfectly fine while the shingles have hidden bruising that can shorten their lifespan.

That’s why it’s a good idea to have your roof inspected after a significant hailstorm—even if you don’t see obvious damage.

At Fetch Roofing, we provide honest, no-pressure inspections with photo documentation so you know exactly what condition your roof is in.

Don’t judge a storm by the size of the hail you found in your yard. Let the condition of your roof tell the real story.

How long should a roof actually last?

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:

“My roof is 15 years old… I guess it’s time for a new one.”

The truth is, age is only part of the story.

A roof’s lifespan depends on several factors:

☀️ The weather – Hail, high winds, and intense sun can all shorten a roof’s life.

🔨 Installation quality – Even the best shingles won’t perform well if they weren’t installed correctly.

🌬️ Attic ventilation – Proper airflow helps reduce heat and moisture that can prematurely age your roof.

🌳 Maintenance – Keeping gutters clean, trimming overhanging branches, and addressing small repairs early can add years to your roof’s life.

Some roofs last 15 years. Others can last 25–30 years or more. It all depends on how they’ve been built, maintained, and what they’ve endured over the years.

That’s why age alone isn’t a reason to replace your roof—its condition is.

At Fetch Roofing, we provide honest inspections to help homeowners understand the true condition of their roof. If it has years of life left, we’ll tell you. If it needs attention, we’ll explain why and show you exactly what we found.

Don’t replace your roof because of its birthday. Replace it because of its condition.

Why does attic ventilation matter?

Your roof isn’t the only thing protecting your home…

Your attic ventilation plays a huge role, too.

When an attic can’t properly release heat and moisture, it can lead to:

🔥 Higher energy bills because your AC has to work harder.

💧 Moisture buildup that can contribute to mold, mildew, and wood deterioration.

🏠 Premature aging of your roofing system due to excessive heat trapped beneath the shingles.

Many homeowners never think about attic ventilation because they can’t see it—but it’s one of the most important parts of a healthy roofing system.

That’s why, during our inspections at Fetch Roofing, we don’t just look at the shingles. We look at the roof as a complete system to help identify issues before they become expensive repairs.

A roof isn’t just about what’s on top… it’s also about what’s happening underneath.

If you’re not sure whether your attic is ventilating properly, send us a message. We would be happy to answer your questions and help you understand how your roofing system is performing.

What actually happens during a roof inspection?

A lot of homeowners think we just climb a ladder, glance around for a few minutes, and call it good.

A professional roof inspection goes much deeper than that.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

🔍 Missing, lifted, or damaged shingles

💨 Signs of wind or hail damage

🔨 Flashing around chimneys, vents, and valleys

🛠️ Pipe boots, exposed nails, and potential leak areas

🍂 Gutters, drainage, and signs of excessive granule loss

📸 We also take photos so you can see exactly what we see.

Sometimes we find damage that needs attention.

Sometimes we find a roof that’s in great shape—and that’s the best news we can give.

At Fetch Roofing, our goal is simple: provide an honest assessment so you can make an informed decision about your home. No scare tactics. No pressure. Just the facts.

The best roof inspection isn’t the one that sells a roof—it’s the one that gives you confidence in the roof you already have.

Have questions about your roof? Send us a message. We would be happy to help.

Do dark shingles make your house hotter?

This is one of the questions I get asked the most.

The short answer? Yes… but probably not as much as you think.

Dark-colored shingles absorb more heat than lighter-colored shingles, but your home’s comfort depends on much more than just the color of your roof.

Here are the biggest factors:

🏠 Proper attic ventilation – A well-ventilated attic helps push hot air out instead of trapping it.

🧱 Good insulation – Quality insulation does far more to keep your home comfortable than shingle color alone.

🔨 A properly installed roofing system – Every part of your roof works together to protect your home and improve energy efficiency.

Choosing a shingle color should be about more than temperature. Think about your home’s style, your neighborhood, and the look you want for years to come.

At Fetch Roofing, we’re happy to answer those questions and help you choose the right roofing system—not just the right color.

The best roof isn’t just the one that looks good… it’s the one that performs well.

What’s a nail pop… and should you worry about it?

It might sound like a small issue, but a nail pop can turn into a bigger problem if it’s ignored.

A nail pop happens when a roofing nail begins to work its way up through the shingle. This can happen because of normal expansion and contraction from changing temperatures, settling, or aging materials.

Why does it matter?

🔨 It can lift the shingle.
💧 It creates an opening where water can get underneath.
🌬️ Strong winds can make the problem worse over time.

The good news? A nail pop doesn’t usually mean you need a new roof. If it’s caught early, it’s often a simple repair.

The key is catching it before it becomes a leak.

At Fetch Roofing, we check for the little things that most homeowners never see. Those small details can make a big difference in extending the life of your roof.

A tiny nail today can become a big repair tomorrow—if it’s ignored.

If you’d like to know how your roof is holding up, send us a message. We would be happy to provide an honest inspection and answer any questions you have.
