I hired PCS Powers Contracting Services (https://www.facebook.com/share/14iZVcM54oZ/) to sheetrock a room I was converting from a garage into a rec room. The job was simple: install sheetrock on the walls (I was not replacing the ceiling), retape some areas on the ceiling, and repair a few minor holes.
I had other sheetrockers give me prices, but they were all booked out for months. Then Terry came in, and he sure did have great talking skills but exorbitant prices, more than double of the other two. Honestly, I was shocked at what he wanted, but he knew I was on a time line, and I knew he was taking advantage of that, but I hired him anyway.
As a General Contractor myself for over 30 years with a 5-star rating, I have never experienced such a complete lack of professionalism from any contractor I’ve hired. You know when someone doesn’t have experience when they show up with all brand-new tools.
What should have been a simple job took two and a half weeks to “complete,” and somehow turned into a full-blown nightmare. At one point, in the middle of the job Terry actually said under his breath, “I wish I never took this job” 😳 I questioned what he said and he first denied it, but then admitted to it. .
I brought up many concerns about the work during the process, like putting a 1 foot piece in the middle of the wall, but he kept assuring me that everything would look great when he was finished. The day he said he was done, I was outside working on my property. He came up to me, said he was finished, and asked for payment. I paid him in full, with the understanding he would come back for minor touch-ups.
Two days later, I went into the room to prime the walls—and I was stunned. Cuts around switches were at least 1½ inches above the boxes. Outlets were cut so badly they tried to fill nearly 1-inch gaps with spackle. Nail pops were EVERYWHERE, and there were large bumps between sheets from improper spackeling, the ceiling looked like a 10 yr old worked on it.
I texted him and asked him to come back and fix the issues. He said he’d be right over. He came flying down my driveway and jumped out of his truck like a maniac. I calmly explained the problems, told him that they were unacceptable and asked him to make the repairs. He became belligerent and flat-out refused to fix anything! He wouldn't even come in to the room to go over the work. He then threw a check at me for about 10% of the total job, said "I'm done" and sped off.
I have tons of pictures documenting the nightmare job he did. I had to cut out and replace sections that couldn’t be salvaged. I tried to re-spackle other areas, but the work is so bad that the only real solution is to gut the room and start over. Even after repairing the room, a ton of nail pops showed up while installing the trim, which is indicative of the sheetrock not being fully against the studs!
He also left my property a mess, with sheetrock dust all over my patio and brick. And lastly—he has no respect. I have cameras all over my property, and they are clearly visible. Those cameras caught him and his crew urinating out in the open.
I tried to reach out to him, but he just blocked me. I would never recommend PCS. I’ve already been in touch with an attorney. Honestly, Terry shouldn’t quit his day job.
