The Folk Art Guild A collective of fine craft artisans and curious people in the Finger Lakes region. East Hill Gallery open for the season! Saturdays 11-5 | Sundays 1-5

We are an intentional community and craft center located in the heart of the Finger Lakes in Middlesex, NY. For over 50 years, Guild artisans have been producing fine crafts including pottery, woodworking, weaving, natural fiber clothing and folk toys. Membership includes both non-residents and residents. Residents live on-site year-round, sharing meals and working together in an effort to live more sustainably. The Guild offers education in traditional crafts through classes, residencies, and apprenticeships. The 350-acre farm is home to the East Hill Gallery, open May through October and displaying the work of Guild artists and Romeo Retreat Center, our guest host available for rentals and programs.

Our final Lecture on the Lawn of the season is coming up Sunday, October 25!

Join us for End of Life, Choice, and Care, a conversation with Dr. Robert Horowitz about his work in palliative medicine, helping patients and families navigate serious illness, difficult decisions, and the end of life.

Dr. Horowitz served as chief of Palliative Care at Strong Memorial Hospital from 2015 to 2023 and continues to teach compassionate communication in medicine at the University of Rochester. His recent work includes developing a program that explores ketamine-assisted psychotherapy to help ease the emotional and spiritual distress of serious illness.

Free and open to all! Registration is encouraged, walk-ins welcome

Explore the ancient craft of wet felting

One of the oldest known methods of making fabric, wet felting uses water, soap, and agitation to transform loose wool fibers into a strong, durable material.

Join fiber artist Lisa DeFrancesco on November 14 for a hands-on introduction to this traditional craft. Participants will learn the process of wet felting while creating a seamless wool bag, then explore needle felting techniques to add color, texture, and decorative details.

No previous experience is needed. All materials are included, and lunch will be provided.

Pottery has been part of life at the Folk Art Guild since its earliest years, beginning with a few potters working in a member's basement.

Today, our potters continue to create work that reflects generations of skill and practice. The craft demands attention, awareness, and concentration at every stage, from preparing the clay to firing the kiln. Through these efforts, we aim to produce pottery of enduring beauty that enhances the small rituals of everyday life.

East Hill Gallery's regular season is coming to a close!

October 24-25 will be the final weekend to visit the gallery during our regular hours this year. Stop by to shop handmade pottery, weaving, woodworking, natural fiber clothing, jewelry, and more.
