We are an intentional community and craft center located in the heart of the Finger Lakes in Middlesex, NY. For over 50 years, Guild artisans have been producing fine crafts including pottery, woodworking, weaving, natural fiber clothing and folk toys. Membership includes both non-residents and residents. Residents live on-site year-round, sharing meals and working together in an effort to live mo

re sustainably. The Guild offers education in traditional crafts through classes, residencies, and apprenticeships. The 350-acre farm is home to the East Hill Gallery, open May through October and displaying the work of Guild artists and Romeo Retreat Center, our guest host available for rentals and programs.

For more than fifty years, ceramic artist David MacDonald has created pottery that is both deeply functional and unmistakably his own. Drawing inspiration from the artistic traditions of sub-Saharan Africa, his surfaces are rich with pattern, rhythm, and movement.

MacDonald taught for many years at Syracuse University and received the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011. His work is held in the collections of the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Everson Museum of Art, and the Montclair Art Museum.

Join him at the Rochester Folk Art Guild July 10-12 for a three-day workshop on lidded vessels.

Part of the Mushroom Dyeing on Silk workshop will include time outdoors exploring the Guild grounds and observing fungi in the landscape.

Alongside hands-on dye work in the studio, participants will discuss the connections between mushrooms, ecology, seasonal materials, and natural color.

This workshop with Tonya Pettit combines practical technique with close observation of the natural world and the materials we work with.

Some moments from past Craft Weekends at the Guild.

Shared meals, long conversations, muddy shoes, studio afternoons, evening music, walks through the fields between classes. Craft Weekend is as much about the atmosphere and community as it is about the workshops themselves.

Join us August 6-9 for four summer days of creativity, learning, and life together in the Finger Lakes.

A few workshops are already full, but there are still openings in several courses, including Writing, Theater, Observational Drawing, and Sow Seeds & Sing Songs.
