Gutter Cleaning? Why and How Often?
The purpose of your gutters is to carry water away from your home. If not cleaned regularly, material can build up in the gutter channel and water will overflow onto the building and foundation. This water can soften the soil under and around your foundation which can lead to cracks. If your foundation is wet when the ground freezes, it can cause heaving and cracks.
In addition, clogged gutters can cause water to rot nearby wood, which can spread to other areas, leading to entry points for rodents, or leaky roofs.
Experts recommend that you clean your gutters a minimum of twice a year. in the spring and fall. However, if you have large trees that hang over your home, especially pine trees you should seek a professional to determine how often your gutters should be inspected, if not cleaned.
