Soft. Sweet. And just enough for Ashley & Tyson 🤍

This petite bridal bouquet I gathered for her felt over-the-top romantic and delicate without feeling oversized.

Blush dahlias, creamy whites, airy cosmos, lisianthus, and those last beautiful peonies of the season — all grown here in the gardens and arranged with that loose, just-picked feeling.

A bridal bouquet doesn’t have to be enormous to feel special.

Sometimes the smaller bouquet lets you shine a little more — while still carrying something beautiful down the aisle.

And this one? I could have stared at it all day. 🌸

I might be a little obsessed. 🌸

I admit it.
Why should fresh flowers only get to be on the kitchen table?

What if you could take an armful of garden flowers and hang them right on your front door?

And call it art!

Fresh dahlias.
Beautiful grasses.
Little wispy flowers and seed heads and all those wonderful textures that make a late-summer garden feel so abundant.

And then… just leave it there.

Let the flowers slowly dry in place.

Let the colors soften.

Let all those textures get prettier and more interesting as we move into fall.

And when you’re finally finished with it?

The whole thing can go right into the compost.

No plastic wreath form.
No floral foam.
No pile of decorations to find a storage bin for.

Just flowers from the garden that get one more beautiful season before returning to the earth. 🤎

Wouldn’t it be so FUN to make these together?

Two-week break?
Then why are there so many bouquets around here? 🌸

Friday Flowers may be taking a little early August break, but the gardens definitely aren’t.

I’m still out harvesting every morning. Dahlias are coming on beautifully, and I’m cutting deeply and giving the gardens a chance to put on fresh growth for the weeks ahead.

And all those flowers?

I’ve been practicing.

Trying new mechanics. Revisiting old techniques. Playing with color and movement. Working on the garden-grown designs you love so much.

I’ve especially been reviewing techniques for my upcoming Dahlia Centerpiece Workshop.

Weddings need to have my sharpest skills, so I’m practicing the elegant cascades and the true American abundant full-arm bouquets we’re seeing more of in weddings. Not to mention some really uniquely amazing corsages.

Every time I practice designing just for fun I remember something that eventually finds its way into a wedding bouquet, a workshop, or even your Friday Flowers.

But then comes the best part…

What happens to all the practice bouquets?

Most are donated to local elderly care facilities. ❤️

And a few become Lonely Bouquets — flowers quietly left somewhere around Middleton or Star for a stranger to discover and take home.

So while the Flower Shed is resting for another week, the flowers are most definitely not.

And now I’m curious…

Do you feel it?

It’s the August rush.

Growing up on the farm, I felt it because harvest was all hands on deck.

As a young mom, I felt it because I wanted to squeeze every last drop out of summer. One more trip to the pool. One more camping trip. One more memory before backpacks and routines returned.

I still feel it.

August has a way of making us believe we have to do more before summer slips away.

But maybe what we need isn’t more.

Maybe we just need to notice the beauty that’s already here.

One bouquet on the kitchen table can change the feel of an entire home. It slows me down every time I walk past it. It reminds me to look up from the to-do list.

No one is more surprised than me.

What began as an exercise in “Bloom where you’re planted”, a few simple garden beds became a place of peace.

Flowers became where I found joy, quiet, and a deeper connection to God’s beautiful creation.

Before long, I realized this kind of beauty wasn’t meant to stay in my gardens or my home.

6.5 years later the gardens are packed full of flowers for joyful weddings, gathering women around the table for flower workshops, and sharing fresh bouquets each week through my Friday Flower Circles.

It’s amazing how something as simple as flowers can slow us down, lift our spirits, and remind us to notice the beauty that’s already around us.

I’m so grateful these little gardens has become a place where so many of you have found a pep in your step from these flowers too.

Thank you so much! The Flowershed back August 21st!!🌸

We’re taking a rest— After today, the gardens are taking a two-week break.

I’ll still be out there every morning watering, weeding, and cheering on the next round of blooms. But no bouquets will be available after today until the fall season begins on August 21st.

So if you’ve been meaning to stop by, get a bunch to put a bit of pep in your step.

And if your mom has been on your mind lately—maybe she’s stuck inside because of the smoke and needing a little reminder she’s cared for—this is a beautiful day to bring home two bouquets.

One for your table.

And one for hers.
