I can’t get over how many students — young men and women — have reached out to us lately asking about jobs and wanting to get into the plumbing trade. It honestly makes me proud and happy to see.

For years, plumbing has been considered a dying trade, but reality is starting to set in: AI can’t do what real plumbers do. The rising generation seems to be noticing that skilled trades are valuable, necessary, and always will be.

All trades are starting to make a comeback, but plumbing especially seems to struggle attracting new people. Let’s face it — plumbing isn’t always considered a “sexy” job — but it is one of the most important jobs out there. Someone has to do it, and when there are fewer plumbers available, the demand for skilled plumbers only grows.

It honestly makes me sad that programs like the plumbing program at Chesterfield County Tech School lost their instructor a few years ago, and from what I understand, had a hard time finding someone to take the position. We need people willing to teach the next generation and keep these trades alive.

To everyone who has reached out to us about getting into plumbing: thank you. Even if we don’t currently have any openings available, please keep reaching out to plumbing companies in your area. There are still good companies out there that would love to teach you the trade, help you grow, and build a solid career.

The trades are far from dead — and that’s a great thing to see.

Well hello Josi, my sweater-weather friend—looks like we’re right back to it again!

It really has been way too long since we connected. I just realized today that it’s been your son Damien I’ve been working with these past several visits as he dropped off some valves — and wow, the apple definitely doesn’t fall far from the tree. He’s such a genuinely kind, helpful, and respectful persona and it’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with him.

Seriously, Josi, I don’t know how you do it, but you all have built such an amazing crew at DAB. I referred a good friend your way just yesterday for some plumbing issues in her older home, and Chris went out to help her. She couldn’t stop saying great things—she was so impressed and grateful.

I mentioned to Damien that I’m getting ready to retire—May 7th is my last day here at the association. After 18 years here and 42 years doing this kind of work, I figured it’s about time to start enjoying life a little more! I’ll definitely miss working with you all, but I’m not going anywhere—I’ll still be calling you for any plumbing needs at my home. There’s truly no better plumbing company around, and I feel really lucky to have been introduced to DAB and to know you and your team over the years.

Thank you so much for everything you and everyone at DAB have done for me and the association. I have to say, it’s been really special getting to see your son be part of it all too.

Wishing you and the whole crew continued success—and hoping our paths cross again soon (even if it’s just over a leaky faucet 😊).
