We’re excited to share the incredible transformation that we wrapped up today. New siding, we vented the soffitt to allow that roof to breathe, PVC on the garage entryway, new fascia and gutters! What a difference it makes — not only in curb appeal but in overall protection and energy efficiency.

I’ve done this repair more times than I can count. If you are not familiar with roofs, this aluminum strip is called ridge vent and it is designed to vent excess heat and moisture from your attic. Unfortunately, this particular product is how builders save a couple bucks at your expense. The pieces are nailed on and the nail holes are caulked. Eventually, the caulking fails and the leaks begin. I feel like if that lip on the edge was flat it wouldn’t leak nearly as much. Anyhow, we replaced the damaged wood and installed a proper vent. Today we remediated some water damage that likely began not long after this house was built. A piece of flashing was never installed and once the tyvek tape failed, water poured in behind the metal capping and rotted out the wood. After removing the rotted wood, we replaced with PVC composite board and sealed it properly with the flashing pan it deserved.
