We had a great time supporting a great cause yesterday at the 3rd annual Rhodes To Recovery golf outing at Hawk Point. The event was an amazing show of support to Rhodes and the entire Danner family, and when all was said and done, raised over $29,000 for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology research!

Over the last 30 days we have experienced nearly 75% less rain than what is normal for this time of year. Needless to say, this is not ideal for lawns! Below are some tips you can use to minimize the drought stress during this dry weather pattern:

-Mow high and leave the clippings on the lawn to conserve moisture and nutrients.
-Water deeply and infrequently in the early morning.
-Keep foot traffic and activities on the lawn to a minimum.

After one of the driest summers ever recorded, we are thrilled that the last several weeks have brought some moisture back into the soil. The lawns certainly needed it! If you still have some bare areas from this summer’s stressful conditions, don’t make the mistake of waiting until the spring to spot seed – now is the most ideal time!

Lawns aren't a huge fan of hot summer weather, so here are some watering tips to help fight the heat!

The lawn should receive roughly 1 to 1 ½” inches of water per week (even during the hottest summer months). Whether you water with a hose or an irrigation system, deep, infrequent watering is ideal (example: water once every 3 days). Frequent, light watering that just dampens the grass can create disease problems. Very early morning watering is ideal (between 4:00 – 9:00 am). This gives the grass time during the day to dry out.

We're entering the time of year where weather patterns make lawns most susceptible to disease. But all hope isn't lost! Here are some tips to help mitigate lawn diseases:

1. Mow at a height of 3.5"-4". This helps the grass retain moisture and helps prevent stress and/or disease.
2. Deep and infrequent watering to a soil depth of at least six inches, twice a week is recommended. Light watering that merely dampens the grass is of little benefit and can actually harm your lawn.
