I’ve had many questions asked lately about The Future of Air Conditioning. Hopefully this will answer some of the questions.

-The EPA is phasing out 410-a refrigerant 1/1/25. Manufacturers can not make new 410 equipment after this date but it can be sold until 1/1/26.
-This is definitely happening no matter who is elected as the new president.
-The new A2L refrigerants will be r-454b and r-32. R-454b is a blend and r-32 is not.
- There is a big difference from when they phased out r22 to 410-a in 90’s / early 2000’s. 410 was “drop in friendly “ on the r22 systems if you flushed lines, put in a 410 metering device etc. Going from 410 to one of the new A2L refrigerants is not drop in friendly, you will need to replace evaporator, lineset, condenser. Also safety sensors that can purge air if there is a leak because the new refrigerant is flammable will have to be installed. As everything else in the world equipment will be 15-20% more.
- Customers asked if I have a 410-a system or if I have a 410-a system installed will I be able to get parts after 1/1/26 and the answer is yes. Manufacturers are still able to produce parts for 410-a system they just can’t produce 410-a systems. Manufacturers also have to stand behind their factory warranties, which most of the time is 10 yrs compressor / 10 yrs parts.
- As of today we will be installing 410-a equipment for 2024 & 2025.
- If your equipment is properly installed and maintained you should easily get 20 years out it with 410-a systems. I cannot give an answer yet on the A2L systems.

If anyone has any other questions my phone / text / DM is always on.
Thanks
