Heat is coming! Follow these watering tips from your friends at Lawns of Southern NH:
1. Water a minimum of every other day, 45-60 minutes per zone in full sun areas and 20-30 min a per zone in shade.
2. Start watering at 2am and finish by 8am
3. If you have too many zones to water in the timeframe above. Split your yard into 2 Programs. Water program A and half the zones on even days and Program B and the other half of lawn on odd. Days
4. Town watering ban? Call your irrigation contractor to help maximize watering in the spirit of deep infrequent watering.
5. Always put your lawn to bed dry and wake up wet on watering days
6. DON’T do Frequent light watering like 20 min a zone everyday or twice a day. More is not better. This will help promote fungus and degrades fertilizer faster. This will also promote moss in shaded areas.
7. Having well issues? Continue the plan above. Change watering so that there is a rest between zones to allow your well to recover. The amount of time will depend on your well. Trial and error works best.
8. If you see drought stress; water every day for a few days until it comes back or extra on watering days if you are limited.
HIGH LEVEL WATERING TIP:
On 90+ degree days please “Syringe Water” your sunny lawn areas for 10-15 per min a zone around 3-4pm. This will take the stress from the heat and give the grass some relief to avoid drought stress. The shorter interval is so it dries out before going to bed.
