Officially introducing- The Maker's Journey 🏺✨
The mission of Wheelhouse is to be a partner is every maker's journey. We've built our classes into four distinct levels of creativity: Starter, Dabbler, Refiner, and Maker. We've found that traditional class levels didn't account for the nuance of the ceramicist's journey—especially those makers that are just starting out.
🌀Starter makers are just beginning their journey. Courses and workshops labeled as Starter Classes are going to be taught without any assumption of experience. They're perfect for makers who've never worked with clay but can also accommodate makers with more experience.
🌀Dabblers are expanding their skills. These classes fill the gap we felt between labeling something as "beginner" or "intermediate". They're designed for makers looking to try a new step in the ceramic process, or a new method entirely. They will be taught with the assumption students have experienced working with clay before. For example, in a dabbler wheel workshop, instruction won't include how to prep or center clay, and instead will focus on more advanced steps in the art of wheel throwing.
🌀After dabbling, it’s time to refine your pottery skills. Refiner classes are designed for students with an established ceramic wheelhouse looking to further advance their skills. You may learn a new technique or get a feel for a new form.
🌀Makers are experienced potters. Classes in this level are designed for students looking to truly master the art.
Our hope is that these levels help to guide you along your journey. After completing a Starter class or two, you may find yourself comfortable with the curriculum of a dabbler class. Then, you may begin to refine your skills as you make your way onto being an experienced potter or, simply, a maker at Wheelhouse Studio.
