Life lately at Germann Brick. We finished up the New Baden Municipal building this past month. We also completed Bobby’s Bottle Shop in Maryville IL. We are getting to start some new projects so stay tuned for pics of an outdoor living area that is going to be pretty amazing when it’s finished.

This week, with the cold weather and snow, we’ve had time to go and help at Freeburg High School. Their construction classes all tried bricklaying on Monday and the advanced class will do it for the rest of the week. Our contractors group, Masonry Institute of Southern Illinois, donated the materials for this class. Our group is very active at trying to show kids our trade if they’re not going to attend college. Thanks to Freeburg High School for inviting us in for the week!

This Friday we attended a signing day ceremony at the CAVE for our apprentice Vinny. Vinny started working for us last June as a part of Bricklayers Local 8's partnership with Belleville District 201 and the CAVE. He now has one week of school left and will start full time with us after that. The great thing about this program is all of the hours that he has worked have counted towards his apprenticeship, so he is going to be close to his first raise after he graduates. Also, once he graduates, he will start getting full benefits paid into insurance, annuity, and pension. Vinny is a great kid, and we look forward to seeing him grow as a bricklayer and in life. He has a great work ethic and is well on his way to being a really good bricklayer. Congratulations Vinny!

We hid from the mud last week with a perfectly timed inside job. Waiting on some limestone to be made, but all the brick in the great room, kitchen, and hallway has been laid. More pics to come on this one.

We’ve been hiding inside from the rain the past couple of days. Then we will hide from the mud early next week to get this finished up. More pics to come.

Germann Brick is looking for a REALIABLE person to be a laborer/mason tender. If you’re an experienced union mason tender and looking for a change give us a call. If you’re a non-union mason tender we will get you into the union! If you are new to the trade and looking for a place to start we will train you.
