We're excited to share a recent kitchen remodel that we completed, and we still can't get over this transformation! We were able to help take a pretty basic kitchen, and make it amazing, with the vision of our very stylish homeowner/friend.

The remodel features warm, oak Kemper cabinetry that now goes to the ceiling and accentuates the space, a contrasting painted island with plenty of seating, and even a former coat closet off the kitchen that we turned into a custom locker area. Quartz countertops help set the elevated tone for the new kitchen, highlighted by the undermount workstation sink by Elkay, and Delta faucets in champagne bronze. The custom backsplash really ties this whole look together - and it was achieved by grouting in three layers to create a custom brick-inspired look that adds so much character and depth to this project!

Cabinets/Tops: Gerhard’s Kitchen, Bath & Lighting Store
Backsplash: CTW Design Center in McFarland
Plumbing: PCI Plumbing Corp.

SCWBA's long-standing leadership of the student build program in Janesville is something to be proud of. We had the chance to tour the latest home at last night's open house, and the best part was seeing the students bring their family and friends through to see what they've been working on. We feel so honored to be a part of a program that offers these amazing opportunities for kids in our area. If you're not familiar with the program, check out this article! And... we couldn't be more excited to be the partnering builder on the next '26/'27 student build house! 🎉

In the words of Mike Rowe... "Not every child will become a lawyer or a doctor. Teach your kids that it is okay to work with your hands and build cool stuff."

Here's something fun for a Friday... meet our team here at Sockness Builders! Yes, I know I'm a few months behind the trend, but it's still pretty fun. Can you guess who everyone is?

For homeowners, building a new house can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions. One day you're panicking because it looks so small, and at the next stage the build looks huge. Don't worry - this happens to almost everyone!

New home builds often feel deceptively small during the foundation (and sometimes framing) stages of the project, and then way larger than you expected when it comes to drywall/plaster. It's so hard to get the "feel" for the size of a new house when your brain is constantly trying to recalibrate for the correct spatial perception at the different stages of the build. The best thing to do is trust the process! Know that you and your builder spent the time going over your plan and that it won't be long before the sizing feels just right.

Things are heating up around here as we get ready to dive head first into upcoming projects this summer. We're looking to add another carpenter to our incredible team. I'd love to hear from you if you think you might be a good fit! Or, send this post to someone who you could picture as a part of our crew.

Three years ago at this time, we were just about to start one of my absolute favorite new home builds of all time. I don't think it's hard to see why this is one of those projects that we just can't stop thinking about. Also, how on earth did three years go by so fast?

This home was featured in the 2024 Parade of Homes. Chime in below if you got a chance to see this one in person. I'd love to know what your favorite feature was.

It's a new week and we're checking in at our ranch house remodel in Edgerton. Next up is shower panel installs, countertops, and built-ins. It's been so much fun transforming this older, closed-off home into something open, inviting, and FUNCTIONAL for its owners. This remodel feels brand new, with some hints of the charm that this home has always had for decades.

We recently completed a kitchen transformation for the sweetest family. On the very first day when we walked into this project, I just knew the before and after photos were going to be staggering. Our main goal was to solve a functionality issue: the existing layout left very little space in the kitchen or living area because of the wall separating the two. It was time for the wall to go! We opened up the space, made up for lost kitchen storage by adding a cute coffee bar area that doubles as a pantry, and we gave this family some room to breathe. Just look at the natural light that can now pour right through the house! We've heard reports that this new kitchen is churning out some pretty amazing baked goods too! 🍪

Project Highlight: Custom Ceramic Tile Shower

This gorgeous custom shower in one of our recent new builds deserves its own post. It's the perfect combination of functional and elegant. Showers like this one are one of the most talked about features of a new home build (and bathroom remodels too!) when we sit down with homeowners. It's not hard to see why they are so popular.
