A water bill that climbs for no reason, or a soft spot in the floor that was not there last month, usually means water is going somewhere it should not.

Most of those leaks never show up as a puddle. They run inside a wall, under a slab, or into the soil until the bill or the drywall gives them away. Opening the wrong wall or breaking concrete on a guess just adds cost. Finding the actual source first keeps the repair limited to the problem.

One slow sink is usually a clog. When several drains back up, toilets gurgle, or you smell sewage outside, the problem is more often in the main sewer line.

A plunger will not fix roots in an older pipe or a section that has shifted. Recurring backups are the house telling you the last clear did not solve it. Summer is over. The systems that carried the house through it are not always fine.

Heat, humidity, and a wet season put real miles on septic tanks, drain fields, irrigation, and water heaters. A lot of that wear does not show up in August. It shows up now, when the yard is still soft in one spot, a zone will not hold pressure, or the heater takes longer to recover than it did in spring.
