It is amazing what the computer-aided software can help you achieve. In years past you could hire a draftsman or architect to design your “dream” home but with just a few lines sketched here and ther

e that was just it. . . you still had to “dream” to envision what your new home would look like. We offer you as much detail as you want or need. Our goal is to work with you and your builders to design a home you will enjoy and be proud of for years to come.

Yes

After months away on duty, I counted down every day until I could finally hold my wife again. But when I came home, she recoiled every time I touched her. The woman I loved looked terrified of something—or someone. What I uncovered inside my own family destroyed everything I thought I knew.

For six long months, I was stationed thousands of miles away from home.

Whenever exhaustion hit, I thought about Elena.

Those thoughts kept me going.

I imagined her smile when I walked through the door.

The way she'd throw her arms around me.

The feeling of finally being home.

That reunion played in my head so many times it felt real.

But the moment I stepped inside our house, I knew something was wrong.

Very wrong.

Elena stood in the kitchen staring at me.

For a second, she almost looked like she didn't recognize me.

She was thinner than before.

Paler.

Exhausted.

Like she'd been carrying a burden too heavy to bear alone.

“Welcome home, Alejandro,” she said softly.

That was it.

No embrace.

No tears.

No excitement.

Just a weak smile that never reached her eyes.

Before I could ask what had happened, another voice interrupted.

My mother.

She appeared from the hallway dressed more elegantly than I'd ever seen her.

Diamond earrings sparkled beneath the lights.

Gold bracelets covered her wrists.

Nothing about it made sense.

Then I noticed Ricardo standing beside her.

My younger brother wore an expensive watch that looked strangely familiar.

A watch I could have sworn belonged to me.

“Elena's had a difficult time while you were gone,” my mother said.

Her smile seemed rehearsed.

Ricardo laughed quietly.

“Six months changes people.”

The moment he spoke, Elena lowered her eyes.

She didn't say a word.

But I noticed.

And something inside me tightened.

That night, things became even stranger.

Elena barely looked at me.

When we finally went to bed, she stayed as far away as possible.

I reached for her hand.

She flinched instantly.

Like my touch frightened her.

Like she expected pain.

I pulled away.

Neither of us slept much.

But while Elena stared at the ceiling pretending everything was normal, I made a decision.

I was going to find out the truth.

The next morning, I started looking.

Quietly.

Carefully.

I checked files.

Emails.

Records.

Anything that might explain what was happening.

What I found made no sense.

Messages had been deleted.

Documents were missing.

Bank accounts had changed.

Ownership records had been altered.

Property transfers had been completed while I was overseas.

Even more disturbing, paperwork bearing Elena's signature appeared everywhere.

Yet I knew she would never have agreed to any of it.

Somehow, assets that belonged to both of us—including our home and part of our business—had been transferred into a company connected to Ricardo.

I stared at the documents for hours.

Trying to understand.

Trying to convince myself there was another explanation.

There wasn't.

Then came the night that changed everything.

After Elena finally fell asleep, I sat beside her in silence.

Something kept bothering me.

The fear in her eyes.

The way she avoided physical contact.

The constant tension in her body.

Carefully, I lifted the edge of the blanket.

And what I saw made my blood run cold.

Bruises.

Old injuries.

Marks that should never have been there.

My hands started shaking.

Every doubt vanished.

Someone had hurt her.

Repeatedly.

And suddenly I understood why she looked so broken.

I gently took her hand.

She woke instantly.

Fear flashed across her face before she realized it was me.

“Who did this to you?” I whispered.

Tears immediately filled her eyes.

She tried to look away.

I squeezed her hand gently.

“Tell me.”

Her voice trembled.

“It didn't matter what I said.”

My heart pounded harder.

“Elena.”

She closed her eyes.

Then finally whispered the name.

“Your mother.”

The room went silent.

I felt like the floor had disappeared beneath me.

Then she said another name.

A name that hurt even more.

“Ricardo.”

I couldn't breathe.

“What did they do?”

Her shoulders began to shake.

“They threatened me.”

Tears streamed down her face.

“They said nobody would believe me.”

She pointed weakly toward the documents on my desk.

“They forced me to sign everything.”

Every word felt like a knife.

The house.

The business.

The accounts.

They hadn't simply stolen from Elena.

They had stolen from both of us.

Outside the bedroom window, laughter drifted through the night air.

I walked to the curtains and looked down.

My mother and Ricardo sat on the patio with drinks in their hands.

Laughing.

Celebrating.

Acting like they had already won.

Like their secrets would never be discovered.

Like I would never learn what happened while I was gone.

I looked back at Elena sleeping through tears.

Then I looked at the people in the garden.

My family.

Or at least the people I once believed were my family.

For six months, I had faced dangers overseas.

But nothing had prepared me for the betrayal waiting inside my own home.

Because they hadn't just betrayed my wife.

They had betrayed me.

And they were about to learn that some betrayals come with a price far greater than money.
