🏗️ Summer Slam is in full swing at Versacon! ☀️

While students are enjoying their summer break, our crews are hard at work; we currently have 14 school projects underway, all finishing before the return to school in September.

Our office team recently visited Justice Page Middle School in Minneapolis to check out the progress on Phase 1 of this two-phase renovation project. Originally built in 1929, the school is getting some major updates to better serve students and staff for years to come. Phase 1 includes:

🏋‍♂️ New Upgraded Gymnasium + Equipment
🚻 Fully Renovated Restrooms
🥗 New Commercial Kitchen + Cafeteria
🎒 4 Classroom Remodels
🧘‍♀️ New Fitness Studio
🏫 Exterior Upgrades

There's something especially rewarding about creating spaces where students can learn, grow, and thrive. We're proud of our entire Versacon team for delivering quality work on schedule so these updated spaces are ready to welcome students back this fall.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our founder, LeRoy Meyer.

LeRoy founded Versacon in 2008 in Maple Grove, he led with hard work, integrity, and teamwork, values that continue to guide Versacon today and serve as a lasting reflection of his impact on our company and the people around him.

We continue to honor LeRoy and the foundation he built at Versacon by commemorating our team's success, recognizing the dedication of our employees, and celebrating the legacy of long-term employee retention, as he did. His commitment to people remains a cornerstone of who we are today.

We extend our deepest condolences to LeRoy’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We are honored to continue carrying forward the legacy and values that LeRoy built Versacon upon.

In late January, we had an incredible time celebrating our 2025 holiday party🎉 It was a night filled with good laughs, great prizes, and even better company! A highlight of the night was announcing our 2025 Award Winners— recognizing hard work and dedication to Versacon.

We are grateful that Brad has been part of our team for nearly 13 years! Brad has a positive mindset and brings an innovative approach to his projects, consistently adding value in even the toughest situations. Brad inspires others to work collaboratively and creatively. Congratulations, Brad— well deserved!

🏆2025 Leadership Award – Neil Gauen
In just over 1 year, Neil has emerged as a great leader and mentor to those around him. He’s always eager to share his knowledge, ask questions, and help wherever he can. Neil also took home Project of the Year alongside Superintendent London Thurman, for their outstanding work at Ehlers. Congratulations to you both!

Winter isn’t stopping us! Our crews are hard at work on our Biochar Building project. This project consists of the construction of a new post-framed building for Minneapolis’ Biochar Operations.

Fun fact: Biochar is a black substance resembling charcoal that is made from organic matter through a process called pyrolysis. Simply put, pyrolysis involves heating organic matter, such as tree bark, dead plants, or leaves, in a low-oxygen environment. Biochar has great potential for enhancing soil health and reducing waste, all while generating energy as a byproduct. Some farmers and foresters are already using biochar as a soil amendment to improve the health of their land!

✨Project Spotlight: Wakan Tipi Center✨
Did you know that in May 2025, the City of Saint Paul adopted the recommendations of state Tribal Historic Preservation Officers to rename two culturally significant and sacred Dakota sites? The cultural landscape encompassing Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary and Indian Mounds Regional Park is now designated as Imniżaska (white cliffs, pronounced e-me-NE-zha-ska). Within this landscape is the new Waḳan Ṭípi Center, a 7,300 SF ground-up building located in Saint Paul. Named in honor of the sacred Waḳan Ṭípi Cave, this space serves as an intergenerational gathering place that connects people to the surrounding landscape through immersive experiences in the Daḳota history, language, and values. The building features an exhibit hall, classrooms, ceremonial space, community gathering areas, and a teaching kitchen and garden. Together, these elements support cultural healing, lifelong learning, and inspiration for generations to come. This project reflects the city’s commitment to preserving Indigenous heritage and strengthening its long-standing partnership with Dakota leaders and communities.
