Community Canopy at Casket Arts
ON VIEW: Now - Sunday, October 25

MAIN EVENT: Sunday, October 25 1:30 - 6:00 PM

More than 50 Minnesota artists have contributed artwork to this new large-scale public art project created by Andrew MacGuffie and a team of collaborating artists.
Each artist contributed an image reflecting their perspective on the times we’re living through and the resilience, determination, and spirit of Minnesota’s creative community. The images have been printed onto fabric and brought together to create a canopy you can walk beneath, gather under, and experience together.
The Community Canopy makes its public debut at Casket Arts during the International Sculpture Conference this October.

Join us Sunday, October 25th, in the afternoon as part of Northeast Arts District Open Studios during the International Sculpture Conference where Northeast Sculpture Gallery Factory opens its doors for an afternoon of open studios, exhibitions, music, performances, metal casting, ArtCars, and plenty more.

FREE open to the public
Come see the canopy, explore the artwork, and spend some time underneath it.

This year, NE SCULPTURE I Gallery Factory is part of The 32nd International Sculpture Conference, The Evolving Field of Sculpture: Shaping the Future of Public Culture, which is happening in Minnesota's Twin Cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

NE Sculpture I Gallery Factory and the accompanying Sculpture Quad, located in Casket Arts Factory building, NE MPLS, connect a national community. Art at the heart of our Northeast Minneapolis community enhances lives by stirring hard-to-articulate feelings and inspiring the community to look beyond what we believe to be possible and imagine a more vibrant, safe and exciting future.

The exhibition "Proof Of Life: 2026 Alumni Exhibition", which runs in the gallery Now - Nov 7th, will have a public opening reception inside and outside of the gallery on Sunday OCT 25th, 1:30-6pm as part of the ISC conference. The gallery exhibition features a dynamic range of works of sculpture, as well as video performances.
These works often explore political themes and reflect our commitment to artistic innovation and social advocacy.

"Proof of Life" exhibiting artists include: L. John Andrew, Allison Baker, Pete Driessen, Luis Fitch, Nathanael Flink, Kyle Fokken, Ruthann Godollei, Sara Hanson, Paul Higham, Mary Johnson, Coral Lambert, Chris Larson, Janet Lobberecht, Andrew MacGuffie, John Michael, Peter Morales, Jane Powers, Flora Ranis, William Ransom, Maria Cristina Tavera, Xavier Tavera, Pocket Toscani, Hannah Walter, David Wyrick.

Casket Artist Spotlight: Susan Wagner- Studio 209

At the heart of all Susan Wagner’s paintings and mixed media works are elements of the landscape, using recognizable characteristics and architectural shapes as her starting points. She uses various media including Venetian plaster to create newly constructed worlds evoking inner atmospheres and dynamic energies. Susan is located in Studio 209 in the Casket Arts Building.

Casket Artist Spotlight:

Hi, I’m Sandra Felemovicius, a contemporary abstract painter born in Mexico City, and I think that’s where my love of color comes from. I paint big, loose canvases with quick, petal-like brushstrokes in lush greens, deep navy, soft pinks and buttery yellows, layering them until the whole surface feels alive. I never really know where a painting is going when I start. I follow the color and the movement, and somewhere between chaos and calm, line, shape and light find their balance.

Casket Artist Spotlight: Andrea Canter - Studio 218

I was a retired psychologist and long-time photographer when I finally turned to abstract acrylic and mixed media painting. I combine paint, art papers, cardboard, and/or other materials into multi-layered works that fall into two portfolios –“Urban Abstraction” and “Imaginary Landscape.” In both groups, I draw inspiration from personal experience, imagination, and whatever current social and political upheavals swirl around me.
