Y’all! You SHOWED UP for the last month’s mutual aid fundraiser! We’re still working through the merch (almost done!) but we can’t sleep on the fact that our MSP community needs so much support right now. Metro Surge has not ended. Mothers, fathers, children, friends, neighbors are still being kidnapped off the street, people are still in hiding, SNAP is still cut off, March rent is still due in 2 weeks and haven’t done anything to help their constituents weather this unimaginable s**t storm. So we continue to come together in so many ways, this is just one more way.

❤️‍🔥 Our door is open but business, school and shopping are all halted today, January 30th at Ornament (and at home) in solidarity with the national strike. ✊✊✊✊✊✊✊

We have the flexibility to make this happen as business owners and took the kids out of school because we believe in the power of the strike today and have something actionable for them to do in the form of Thank Yous and packing up merch y’all got during our fundraiser. We understand that’s not the case for everyone.

The justice system is being weaponized to arrest independent journalists, activists, policy advocates who are putting a spotlight on how unjust this occupation truly is.

Families are being torn apart as I post on instagram.

This is definitely not over and while it’s exhausting, that’s the whole point.

We can’t lose sight of the point of any strike… ❤️‍🔥 to sacrifice individually for the greater good of the collective. ❤️‍🔥 Hopefully we can all find ways to answer the call to do our best even if it’s uncomfortable or scary.

H❤️‍🔥E💥L💛L Y🌎E🤎S Y’ALL! Collectively you came together and with our match raised $7,373 for desperately needed rent relief for our neighbors throughout the twin cities! We’re working on identifying mutual aid funds that seem like they need the biggest boost to try and spread as much around as possible before the end of the month (if you have a suggestion please dm me!). I will link to all of them once we do and also post donations for transparency. Thank you thank you thank you!

But! The work is not over and the importance of our collective consciousness is greater than ever. 💘

✊ Ornament will be taking part in the NATIONWIDE shutdown this Friday, Jan 30th.

To turn the tides of this authoritarian hellscape we have to hit them where it hurts most and for all these greedy ass bastards that’s their money. Yooooo you all raised 💖 $3,550 💓 IN ONE DAY FOR RENT RELIEF MUTUAL AID!!!! Hellllll f**kin’ yes!!!! Let’s keep the momentum going!

Fundraiser will close this Wednesday morning so we can make sure and distribute with enough time before the 1st. We have two full days left!

🌞❤️‍🔥 MUTUAL AID FUNDRAISER 🤎✊

ALL WE HAVE IS EACH OTHER. We are hosting a teeshirt & sweatshirt fundraiser to raise money that will be donated to 💛 rent relief mutual aid 💛programs for families who have been and continue to be impacted by the unrelenting and ghoulish occupation of federal ICE agents in our beautiful state.

People are unable to leave their homes to work. Kids can’t go to school. OUR NEIGHBORS ARE BEING MURDERED. Those of us who have resources need to stand up and support our neighbors who are living in a state of fear and terror, wondering how they will afford to keep a roof over their family’s heads. (AHEM where is the eviction moratorium!?)

If you’ve ever wondered how you were going to pay rent you know that particular type of stress. And if you’ve never felt that type of stress count yourself lucky and here’s an opportunity to make sure a family that needs help gets it.

We will run this until all the tees & sweats are gone and then it will transition into a regular old fundraiser where you give money out of the goodness of your heart. I will send you a thank you card. ◡̈ The fundraiser will go until *Wednesday the 28th* and 100% of any monies raised will be donated. Receipts to follow for transparency.

This morning, after dropping my kids at school, I screamed with more rage than I ever have in my life. I was screaming in my car with my window rolled down while other members of my community screamed and blew their whistles louder.

I screamed at people who I have quickly come to know have no guiding compass, no souls, no love… nothing coursing through their veins that courses through mine. They’re sick in the head & the heart. They’re divorced from the earth & from what makes us creatures of this earth. The screams poured out of me involuntarily, flying out of my mouth in the most visceral way possible. I’m not a screamer but I screamed.

I screamed & honked and once they were gone my body shook all over and my heart raced. After I shook, I sobbed. I sobbed so much I had to pull over. I sobbed for how much I hate that these horrible people are here in our home, violating our beautiful streets with their big boots and their stupid costumes and their will to do evil. I sobbed because sometimes it feels like they’re never going to leave. I sobbed because I saw them laugh at good people who care. And I realized I was also sobbing because of all these good people. I couldn’t actually hear these joker’s laughs, I couldn’t hear whatever they were saying to taunt these good people, I couldn’t hear a single thing they had to say. But I could hear a swelling chorus of whistles and honking and screaming all saying the same thing : YOU HAVE NO TRUE POWER HERE BECAUSE WE LEAD WITH LOVE AND YOU LEAD WITH FEAR AND YOU WILL NOT WIN WITH FEAR.

We care about people we’ve never met. We care about children we’ll never hug. We care that people keep their homes. We care that these homes have food in them. We care deeply about each other here and they’re finding out that this invisible bond that runs between each one of us is a hell of a lot stronger than the quest for power and control that binds them.

Ornament stands in full solidarity with our community. We’re striking on Friday the 23rd. We’re talking to our kids about why.

I love Minnesota and all the people in it who care about each other. ICE can f*ck right off this planet, we don’t need you. No one does. 💛🤎

WHEW WHAT A YEAR. 🌾 I have struggled the past few months to post and share here. After a while of not putting anything out there I was like, “What’s up?” to myself. And I couldn’t figure it out for a long time. But then I realized I was experiencing a need to go inward and tend to myself. It was a good year and it was a challenging year. I’m a business owner who cares deeply about what I do and the relationships that I build and that care that I try to conjure on a daily basis often forces me to come face-to-face with my oldddd bulls**t and ways of thinking and sometimes it’s a lot.

I think to myself, “Geeze chill out, we’re not doing brain surgery. We’re not saving lives. This isn’t a big deal!” But in reality, discounting the importance and meaning behind what we do makes me feel empty and uninspired because I need it to have meaning, it should all mean something… otherwise TRULY what are we doing? So the conundrum is : meaning something and feeling lots of things; or shrugging it off as not meaning much and then not feeling much. I’ll take meaning & feeling.

I read this Bell Hooks quote the other day that has really stuck with me, and I thank her (not the first time) that she offers me the words I needed to start thinking again about the meaning of it all…

“When we intentionally strive to make our homes places where we are ready to give and receive love, every object we place there enhances our well-being.”

It really is all about giving and receiving love. What we do… it’s not stuff. Not trends. Not an object purchased for objects sake. It’s rooted in how we can help you make the space you have a space where you feel free and ready to give and receive love through functionality & beauty.

Feels a little woo woo to say but it also feels right have an anchor that’s more than business.

Thank You to all of the trades we worked with this year, to all of our clients who trusted us, and all of you who follow along.

We will need love & our deepest reserves to get through the next few years but I know that with community and connection we will find a way.
