Love the house. Love the neighborhood. Just need the home to do more?

That was the challenge here. This family wanted to stay in the classic home they loved, but they were missing some pretty big everyday things: a garage, easier backyard access, a mudroom, and a real outdoor living space.

Hanson solved it with a tuck-under garage addition topped by a rooftop deck, carefully matching the existing siding, trim, and architectural details so the new space feels like it has always belonged there.

For homeowners in older Minneapolis and St. Paul neighborhoods, moving isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes the best home is the one you already love — with a little more room to live.

An unfinished Minneapolis attic with exposed framing, sloped ceilings and no plumbing.

Now? It’s a serene primary bathroom designed around the architecture of an older home — not in spite of it.

For this Pleasing Primary Bath transformation, we turned previously unused square footage into a warm, highly functional retreat with:

✨ A vaulted ceiling and warm wood collar ties
✨ Radiant heated floors
✨ A floating double vanity with quartz countertops
✨ Layered lighting and under-vanity illumination
✨ A spacious tiled shower
✨ Custom arched window + matching arched shower niche
✨ Brass fixtures and warm wood details
✨ A privacy wall surrounding the toilet

What if the basement you barely use could become one of your favorite parts of the house?

That’s exactly what happened with this South Minneapolis basement remodel. What had primarily been storage became a warm, highly functional lower level with a generous family room for movie nights, a dedicated home office, a new bathroom, and plenty of storage tucked out of sight.

We kept the original posts and beams exposed for character, carried custom walnut details throughout the basement, added an egress window for natural light, and used bold wallpaper and terrazzo to give the space a personality all its own.

And that bathroom? A curbless shower, custom terrazzo floor, walnut slat wall, and champagne-gold details turned a practical addition into one of the standout spaces in the project.

For homeowners in Minneapolis and St. Paul, your basement may already have the square footage your family needs. It may just need a better plan.
