Small rooms are often the best place to make a confident design choice.

In this powder room, scenic wallpaper, soft blue cabinetry, and warm brass details create a layered composition without overwhelming the space. Every element has a role, from the tailored storage to the sculptural lighting and hardware.

A compact footprint can still carry plenty of character.

Layering can look different from one room to the next.

In one home, warm wood cabinetry and a patterned tile floor give a pantry its character. In another, a lively wallcovering and rich color make a powder room feel entirely its own. What connects them is the attention to how each detail works with the others.

We’re sharing more about our approach to color, pattern, and texture in a new feature with Artful Living.

The best outdoor spaces make staying home feel like getting away.

A tucked-away bar creates an easy place to gather, while the nearby kitchen, fireplace, and open-air seating keep cooking and conversation connected. Framed by mature trees and a sweeping view, the entire space feels designed for lingering.

An outdoor room can hold every part of the evening.

Pattern does not have to stay in one room to create a sense of connection.

A bold wallcovering animates the home’s transitions, while a quieter geometric pattern carries the idea into the kitchen. Balanced with warm oak, white millwork and classic brass, each moment adds personality without interrupting the architectural rhythm.

The repetition is subtle, but the sense of continuity is unmistakable.

Life gets busy. The spaces that meet us at the door should make it a little easier.

Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry gives coats, shoes and everyday necessities a dedicated place, while a built-in bench creates a natural pause between coming and going. Warm oak, tailored hardware and a distinctive tile floor allow this hardworking drop zone to feel fully connected to the rest of the home.

Thoughtful storage does more than contain clutter, it supports the rhythm of daily life.

The best additions do more than add square footage, they change how a home can be lived in.

In this Afton home, expansive windows draw the surrounding landscape inside, while custom millwork and warm wood cabinetry help the space feel naturally connected to the original home.

A thoughtful addition should feel as though it always belonged.

A strong room does not compete with its setting, it makes the view part of everyday life.

In this Arden Hills living space, a broad wall of windows frames the water while warm wood, dark accents and a restrained material palette keep the interior grounded. The homeowners begin and end nearly every day looking out these windows, a reminder that thoughtful architecture can turn a beautiful view into a daily ritual.

Beautiful Meets Function

A the ease and accessibility of aging-in-place design with timeless beauty. The no-threshold shower offers bathroom designed for today—and thoughtfully designed for the years ahead.

This primary bath pairs the ease and accessibility of aging-in-place design with timeless beauty. The no-threshold shower offers seamless, effortless access without feeling utilitarian, while natural materials and refined finishes bring warmth, character, and a sense of permanence to the space.

Because thoughtful design shouldn’t ask you to choose between function and beauty. It should bring the two together in a way that feels effortless—and continues to feel beautiful as the home evolves.
