šŸ«§šŸ› You have a Wisconsin farmer to thank for your relaxing bubble bath. Who knew a hog Golder and some claw feet could change the bathroom as we know it.

On this episode of Old Home Did You Know, we talk about the clawfoot bathtub and how John Michael Kohler modernized bathroom plumbing.

It’s time to de-stigmatize h**p!

H**p is making huge waves in the building science and construction industry for creating a healthier, more sustainable and renewable material alternative to the standardized insulation options we see today.

So many benefits with a few workable caveats we’re optimistic about!

It’s always fun to get out of the modeling and drafting software and sketch creatively (even if it’s still digital sketching).

Each programmatic vignette captures a snippet of the full building’s story. Each space is a piece of the puzzle.

Watch me put my face on for the day and listen to me yap about designing responsibly.

Bigger isn’t better. Your house isn’t meant to look like a hotel lobby imo (unless that’s your style).

I’m about leading your home design with wonder, warmth and whimsy. And designing efficiently and thoughtfully is more powerful than you might think.

The most cost effective place to change your mind is on paper.

That what schematic design is all about. Before materials get ordered, before permits get pulled, before a single wall gets framed, you get to explore multiple floor plans. Trade-offs are made visible so you can choose with confidence instead of crossing your fingers.

Swipe to see what this phase covers, what you’ll walk away with, and how it sets up everything that comes next.

Send this to someone who’s about to start a renovation without a design phase.

Let’s talk about the anteroom.

The anteroom is a buffer space, borrowed from historic residential design, where transitional rooms were used to create boundaries between intimate spaces and support the tasks that happen within them.

Getting ready. Unwinding. Sharing a space with another person without the morning routine becoming a collision.

On this primary suite renovation, the sequence was designed with all of that in mind. Bathroom. Anteroom. Closet. Each space protected by the one between them.

Change orders are the silent budget killer on every renovation that skips design. On a $500K project, 10–25% in change orders is $50K–$125K: gone. That’s what happens when decisions get made in the field instead of on paper.

Swipe to see exactly what that money could have bought you instead. → Save this if you’re planning a renovation. Send it to someone who’s about to skip the architect.
