The biggest design decision in this kitchen wasn't a cabinet, countertop, or appliance.

By enlarging windows and opening sightlines throughout the main floor, this Excelsior remodel transformed the lake into part of the design itself. Natural light reaches deeper into the home, and nearly every space now feels connected to the water beyond.

• The oversized island features a built-in prep station designed to make cooking and entertaining easier.

• Custom oak cabinetry follows the architecture of the room, turning what could have been a challenge into one of the home's most distinctive features.

Some kitchens ignore the spaces around them.

This one embraced it.

With rounded walls framing three corners of the space, the original kitchen always felt a little disconnected from the home itself. So when the homeowners were ready to remodel, they leaned into the curves instead of working around them.

Custom oak cabinetry follows the contours of the room, quartzite surfaces echo the same flowing lines, and a striking curved hanging cabinet creates a focal point above the island.
