πͺοΈ **CLAIMS CORNER: When Two Storms Hit, Which One Caused the Damage?**
This Florida property was hit by **two hurricanes**.
π Hurricane Helene caused flooding.
π¨ Hurricane Milton later caused wind damage to the roof.
When we documented broken roof tiles and resulting ceiling damage from water entering above, the insurance company still denied liability for the wind and ensuing water damage, attributing it to flooding.
That raises an important insurance question:
**Just because a home flooded, does that mean ALL of the water damage came from the flood?**
Not necessarily.
When multiple causes of damage are involved, documenting **how the damage happened** can be just as important as documenting what was damaged.
In this case, the dispute eventually went to Florida DFS mediation, where the homeowners chose to accept a **$30,000 negotiated settlement** rather than proceed to litigation.
π **This week's Claims Corner lesson:**
**Don't just photograph the damage. Document the story of how the damage occurred.**
