From swatch to statement ✨

Every fabric tells a story—and seeing it come to life is one of our favorite parts of the design process. We start with carefully selected samples, considering texture, color, durability, and how each piece will work within the overall vision. Then comes the magic: seeing those selections transformed into custom furnishings that bring the entire room together.

Which fabric-to-furniture transformation is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! 👇

A week in the life at Tran + Thomas ✨

From refining construction documents and sourcing one-of-a-kind antiques to exploring material showrooms and meeting with trusted vendor partners, no two days look the same. Every detail, decision, and collaboration plays a role in bringing our clients’ homes to life.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the process, creativity, and coordination that happen long before installation day.

Before you fall in love with the look of a piece of furniture, take a closer look at what it’s made of. 👀

One of the biggest ways furniture manufacturers cut costs is by using wood that hasn’t been properly kiln-dried. Kiln drying removes excess moisture from the wood, helping it remain stable over time.

When wood isn’t properly dried, it can continue to shrink, expand, crack, warp, and split as it adjusts to its environment—just like the table shown in this video. While no natural wood is completely immune to movement, quality construction starts with properly prepared materials.

Investing in well-made furniture means looking beyond the surface and understanding the craftsmanship behind it. Have you ever had a piece of furniture crack or split unexpectedly? Tell us about it below! ⬇️

Meet Maddie from our residential design team ✨

A big part of great design happens behind the scenes — and this reel is a glimpse into the process. From site walks and sourcing tile to testing furniture at market and exploring High Point Market, Maddie is constantly evaluating materials, products, and details that help bring our projects to life.

Whether she’s reviewing LED mirror options, searching for the perfect fabric, or finding inspiration at market, every step is focused on creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional for our clients.

A closer look at the palette behind one of our current remodel projects ✨

This design is centered around warm neutrals layered with rich texture and depth — from the fabulous wallpapers to the lush fabrics and warm medium-tone woods that bring everything together so beautifully. We love creating spaces that feel elevated and inviting, and so much of that comes from thoughtfully balancing materials, tone, and texture.

Even within a neutral palette, there’s so much opportunity for personality, warmth, and visual interest when the layers are intentional.

Which element would you gravitate toward most — the wallpaper, fabrics, or wood tones? 👀

One of the biggest reasons we attend High Point Market? Getting to experience furniture pieces in person 👏

A piece can look beautiful in photos, but quality, durability, and construction are things you can only truly evaluate firsthand. In this case, we loved the design of this side table — but once we interacted with it, it felt very wobbly and unstable.

As designers, it’s our job to look beyond aesthetics and make selections that will not only look great, but also perform well for our clients over time. Thoughtful design is about balancing beauty, function, and longevity.

Would you rather have a statement piece or a highly durable piece for your home? 👀

Choosing the perfect paint color to complement wallpaper is about so much more than matching colors. 🎨

The undertones in both the wallpaper and paint can completely change how a room feels. A color that looks perfect on a paint chip may suddenly feel too cool, too warm, too bright, or too muddy once it’s paired with a patterned wallcovering.

Selecting the right paint color takes years of practice, studying thousands of paint colors, and developing an eye for the subtle undertones that make all the difference. It’s one of those design details that often goes unnoticed when it’s done well—but can dramatically impact a space when it’s not.

This is why we spend so much time testing, comparing, and refining selections to create rooms that feel cohesive, balanced, and intentional.

Have you ever been surprised by how different a paint color looked once it was on the wall? Tell us below! 👇

One of our favorite finds from High Point Market 👏✨

This chair immediately stood out to us — not only because of its beautiful design, but because it’s incredibly comfortable and exceptionally well constructed. We’re always looking for pieces that strike the balance between aesthetics and function, and this one does exactly that.

The details, proportions, and craftsmanship make it a piece that feels just as good as it looks — and that’s what great furniture design is all about.

Would you choose comfort or style first when shopping for a chair? 👀

Natural rope details add incredible texture, warmth, and organic character to furniture. We love the casual, handcrafted feel they bring to a space, especially in coastal, transitional, and nature-inspired interiors.

However, rope is one of those materials where beauty often comes before durability. Natural fibers can fray, stain, stretch, and show wear over time—particularly in high-traffic households. For families with young children who are hard on furniture, we typically recommend more durable alternatives that can better withstand everyday use.

Great design isn’t just about how something looks on installation day—it’s about how it performs for years to come. The best material choice is one that balances beauty, durability, and the realities of everyday life.

Would you choose natural materials for their character, or prioritize durability first? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Designing for a small space is one of our favorite creative challenges ✨ Every piece has to work harder — which means we carefully think through the function of each item and how it can serve multiple purposes within the home.

From furniture that offers hidden storage to layouts that maximize flow and flexibility, thoughtful design can make even the smallest spaces feel intentional, elevated, and functional. It’s all about creating a home that works beautifully for the way you live.

What’s one feature you think every small space needs? 👇
