Ever wonder what goes into a home before the concrete is even poured?

This is what the underground plumbing rough-in looks like on a new construction build in Grand Bay, AL. Our team dug the trenches, ran all the drain and supply lines, and set every stub perfectly to grade — all before a single yard of concrete touches the ground.

Shepard’s Plumbing & Septic handles new construction from the ground up — plumbing AND septic. If you’re building in the Mobile, Baldwin, or Jackson County areas, give us a call to get your project started!

This rain has been HARD on septic systems lately!!

We’ve had a huge spike in septic tank pumping calls over the last couple weeks because saturated ground and heavy rainfall can overwhelm systems that were already getting close to full.

A lot of people don’t realize that when the field lines can’t absorb water properly, the whole septic system starts struggling. That’s when you start seeing:
• Slow drains
• Toilets bubbling or backing up
• Sewage smells outside
• Wet spots in the yard

If your system has been acting up after all this rain, don’t ignore the warning signs. Catching it early is usually much cheaper than waiting until sewage is backing up into the home!

Serving Mobile and Baldwin Counties & surrounding areas with septic pumping, repairs, inspections, and installs.

This is the kind of stuff we run into all the time when replacing failed field lines.

These lines were completely packed full of dirt and roots, so the system had nowhere left for the water to go. At that point, the septic system can’t properly drain anymore, and that’s when homeowners start noticing slow drains, sewage smells, wet spots in the yard, or backups in the house.

A lot of times people think they “just need the tank pumped,” but sometimes the real issue is underneath the ground in the drain field itself.

If your septic system has been acting up, give us a shout. We’ll come take a look and help you figure out what’s really going on.

Good people are hard to find — and we’re thankful for ours!!

We took the crew out for a little floundering trip with Afterdark charters and had an absolute blast! Nights like this remind us how important it is to slow down every once in a while and appreciate the people who help keep this business running every day.

We’re proud to have a hardworking group of guys who show up for our customers and our community day in and day out. Thank you Matthew Mcgilberry, Bailey Impastato, Colin Shepard, and Nathan Williams; we certainly couldn't do it without you!

Big thanks to Afterdark charters for a great trip and a boat full of fish!

We’re back and hard at it today — give us a shout if we can be of assistance!

🚨 THIS is why we say “no wipes” — even the “flushable” ones 🚨

We recently pulled this grinder pump out of a lift station in Theodore, after it completely burned up… and this is what we found:

- Baby wipes wrapped around the impeller
- Motor overheated trying to push what it never should’ve seen
- Result = full pump failure

These pumps are designed for wastewater — not wipes, rags, paper towels, or hygiene products.

“Flushable” does NOT mean safe for your system.
It just means it’ll go down your toilet… not that it won’t destroy your equipment later.

This kind of failure can turn into a costly replacement real quick.

Simple rule: If it’s not toilet paper, it doesn’t go in the toilet.

If you’re having slow drains, alarms, or pump issues — we can catch it before it gets to this point.

Sometimes it’s the small components that cause the biggest headaches.

We recently helped a local business by replacing multiple worn-out flush valves in their restroom. Old or failing flush valves can lead to constant running water, poor flush performance, and higher utility bills—not something any business wants to deal with.

We removed the failing units and installed new commercial-grade flush valves to restore proper function and ensure reliable operation for high-traffic use.

If your restrooms aren’t performing like they should, it may not be the fixture—it could be what’s behind it.

Not every drain issue starts under your home… sometimes the best access point is right from the roof.

We performed a camera inspection through the roof vent stack to get a clear look inside the sewer line without tearing anything up. This method lets us:
- Check for blockages
- Identify buildup or damage
- Evaluate overall line condition
- Avoid unnecessary digging or guesswork

If you’re dealing with slow drains, backups, or recurring issues, a camera inspection is the fastest way to get real answers—not assumptions.

At Shepard’s Plumbing & Septic, we don’t guess. We show you exactly what’s going on.

Another clean top-out in the books for a new construction home in Wilmer.

We wrapped up the plumbing top-out for this new construction home, making sure everything is set up the right way before walls go up.

At this stage, what matters most isn’t what you see—it’s what you don’t see later:
• Proper venting so fixtures drain correctly
• Clean, well-supported water lines
• Layout that makes sense for long-term maintenance
• No shortcuts behind the walls

This is the part of the job that determines how the system performs for the next 20+ years.

A lot of plumbing issues homeowners deal with can be traced back to poor rough-ins and rushed top-outs. We take the time to do it right the first time.

If you’re building, remodeling, or planning ahead—this is where quality matters most.

Serving Grand Bay, Wilmer, Theodore, Saraland, and across Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
